Hi All,

Korn here!! We bought a '59 Karmann Ghia about a week back, been doing some research on engines and came across the site. The KG's body work is completely fixed and resprayed but it needs a new interior and engine.

Talking bout the engine, is the VW 1795cc industrial engine a yes or a no for the KG?? Ive done some reading on the forum but can't really figure out. The reason why I ask is we found 32 of these engines in PTA, BRAND new!! Newer been used, they just got dust on them.

Also got a 1958 Unimog 411-110 and a 1964 Triumph Spitfire MK1 standing at home. :-)

To be honest, i'm unfortunately not a expert on VW engines yet. Ask me anything Unimog and i'll be able to answer you. :D

I can tell you that the engine is too long for the engine bay due to the air cooling unit sitting on the end of engine and not on top, the alternator sits next the engine, it has a governor and the flywheel teeth look like the starter motor sits at 90degrees to the block. That's bout all i can say bout the engines, it seems to be old military stock and the guys where these engines are thought of exporting them but they haven't gotten round to that yet. These engines still have grease on the flywheel to protect the metal and have VW "tag papers" all over.

Do you know what application they would have been used for?
