Re: Damn ALTERNATOR
carefully using 2 screwdrivers, one from each side to push the pulley evenly.
Or get a cheap gear puller

Re: Damn ALTERNATOR
No way man = the gear puler has 3 prongs & there are only 2 possible places to hook. Screwdrivers don't even move it.

Re: Damn ALTERNATOR
you also get 2 arm gear pullers.Rusty wrote:No way man = the gear puler has 3 prongs & there are only 2 possible places to hook. Screwdrivers don't even move it.
My past experience with these 3 piece pulleys is that it has a very very tight fit on the key to avoid it moving around and destroying the keyway. This pulley takes some serious abuse with the fan and constant rpm changes....

Re: Damn ALTERNATOR
Try soaking it in penetrating oil for a while, and lightly tap it with a hammer all around the pulley half (read: moenie die altenator moer nie! )
It probably has some rust between the axle and the pulley centre (nature's own Loctite)
Good luck!

What is a 3 piece pully - if it's a no good thing what do you suggest I replace it with? I have calmed down a bit but not much. I live in Namaqualand so can I say etter?

I did (say moerskont) & it's still stuck. On top of it all my anti-virus thing has expired & i'm busy downloading it at serious risk. Used to talk to software in my day - hardware got the other treatment - that's why it's called HARDWARE.

Re: Damn ALTERNATOR
if its not a 3 piece pulley, then I dont understand why you cant get 3 arms onto it. The 3 piece had a small hub that fits the shaft, then the two pulley halves fit onto the hub.

Re: Damn ALTERNATOR
TZ - theres a nut & a cone shaped thing that holds the rear half of the pully. Removing the nut & cone allows me to remove the rear half of the pully. Now I'm left with the front half stuck on a bush as you say. There are two cut-outs on the front of the rear half of the pully & these are the only 2 holes the hooks on the puller can fit into. The holes are opposite each oher & you can stick a screwdriver in there to remove the nut when replacing the fanbelt. I suppose it is a 3 part if you consider the bush. Lights. I think Pine may be right - the bush is stuck as a result of oceanic cancer - the natural loctite. Gona give it a few Whcaks again!

Re: Damn ALTERNATOR
turn the arms of the puller around and grab the outer diameter of the pulley. Apply light pressure, some oil and a few soft taps with a hammer to rattle it...

Re: Damn ALTERNATOR
HA HA - took it to a garage and it's all fixed. There's a big fat cup (warped) washer behind that nut that puts a lott of strain on it. Now I understand, why the nut's so tight, how I suffered for my sanity, how I tried to set it free. It would not listen ....
Thank you people - Peace
