gauges do make you worry more than you should i must confess
especially oil pressure in my case... I have dual terminal oil pressure sender and the warning light comes on earlier than it should normally .... makes me worry :?

I fully agree armand, however I had a bad spot of luck a while ago where the motor would just cut out from too much heat, (blocked oil cooler), I'd have no warning whatsover, once I know that the engine is running fine again (a few LONG trips) I'll take it off.

My engine was so hot, you couldn't touch the fan housing.

The new gauge almost blinds you at night compared to the soft lit 40 year old VDO gauges.

Hi Adolph

I just got an email from you, but there was no reply address.

The stock location is MORE than ok for cooling the engine. Mounting it away from the engine is proabbly going to make your engine run hotter unless you want to mount a big set-up with a electric fan set-up.

Well dude... once again it comes to this question... Why would you want to change something that Germans have worked on, designed and implemented for so many years? If there can be hundreds of Aircooled VW's in the world, running with the oil cooler in the stock position without it being problematic, even after so many years... So, why change it? I'd just leave that cooler where it is. Will definitely save you time & money.

You can't yet prove that this idea will solve overheating problems... I mean, in a computer, they don't position the heat sink for the CPU outside your PC case, just to get it "away" from all the hot parts. It is more trouble, so they rather just put it directly on the CPU, supply it with a constant flow of cool air, and it works 100%.

Also remember, by moving the oil cooler, you are definitely going to cause a few new problems for yourself while doing the conversion, with the first one being: Where would you move it, because currently it sits in the ideal spot... cool air flows over it while the engine runs. Secondly, oil coolers tend to leak in the normal setup, so when you change the setup, you may just as well be busy creating a problem for yourself in terms of a leaking oil cooler setup.

I don't think the hot engine block affects the efficiency of the oil cooler that much, as it does receive cool air continuously. Like I said... leave it. Rather spend time & money on something else... :drunks:

^^^well said.

By making sure that your engine bay is sealed off with the use of the proper compartment seal and that all engine tin is in place, then this is also making sure that you don't get any hot exhaust air from below the cooling tin.

i totally agree with IMPI. rather make sure your alt light works properly to warn you of v-belt failure . also periodically check for filht inside the cooling fan. after a long time in beetles i found more stock beetles overheat due to dizzy problems .????
