The engine is 1600 TP standard; no mods whatsoever.
I'll definately try the condensor idea; I have a spare here somewhere.
Thanks!

Your tune-up worked great for 2 days...and then it went back to it's old habits. :/
The engine was also warm when we worked on it. It usually gives the most trouble when it's cold.
We're taking the carb off this weekend to clean it out.

Inlet manifold air leaks can also cause hesitation on acceleration. Check the two seals between the parts of the manifold and also between manifold and carb and cylinder head.

I'll clean the carb and give that a check while I'm at it - thanks.

The reason for my exceptionally high consumption; cold hesitation; lag; etc. is...
A missing carb pump jet!
Somewhere along it's Life my totally abused carb lost it's jet. :/
...currently searching for a replacement jet.
