My '77 Beetle
This was my first car. Bought it in 1986 for R1500. Spent a little bit of money on it when I had some and did everything myself with the exception of the king and link pins. I have so many fond memories of that car. I am soooooo sorry that I sold it. I am trying to track it down at the moment, but no luck so far.
A short list of changes from the original.
Nissan Sunny seats with high adjustment, Speeline steering wheel, Extra gauges for the oil press and temp, plus rev counter and clock.
Custom built keypad immobiliser. Nice sound system by '80's standards. Electric windscreen washer. Rear window louvre, aftermarket side mirrors, front spoiler. I de-chromed the car making everything black and adding black pinstriping. I refurbished the Rostyles. The engine was basically a standard 1600 TP with a Ritchie Jude 2nd stage cam, Weber 36dcd carb and manifold, bosch blue coil and 009 distributor, and a 4-into-1 exhaust. After I damaged the crank on the AC engine I fitted a 1.9 wbx. At the stage I sold it, I was busy with a 12A rotary engine, but never installed it.

No, today was "Kick yourself for selling your Beetle day" at work.
If I had to name the Dumbest thing I've ever done, selling my first bought would be it.

Thanks guys. Sitting on the other side of the world makes it difficult, but hopefully I'll make some progress over the holiday season.

Re: My '77 Beetle
It wasn't to good with original carb, but after I put the 36 weber off the Ac engine on their, it was day and night difference. I could still fill up the speedo, but it revved easier and consumption was much better. The best thing was the torque. I remember coming back from Uvongo and flying up the hills past Pmb in 4th.Blitzkrieg wrote:Back in the days when there were no digital cameras
