Episode 10

I went past the upholsterers place on friday to go and see up close and personal what the new interior looks like.
Just as good as the pics ! :hangloose: We could not find the original headliner material for the notch, so we used a white vinyl with a slight texture on it, will be using the same for the pillars. Looks fantastic.

Noticed that we will be needing a "new" ashtray. This one has a chip in it. The housing is fine, just the black part needs to be replaced. Anyone ?

The upholsterer also cleaned up the arm rests and gave them a polish, they look as good as the day they left the factory.

As mentioned above, Ferdi a.k.a. Bugoff a.k.a. Dr Metal, found some more Fe2O3

But, he has been a busy little bee again this weekend....

Lots of pics, showing the sad sad doors, the #@$# fibreglass and that they must have used this car as a baja at some stage. Some random repair pics in between.

Episode 11

The rain falling recently has hampered work a little, but there has been some more progress.

After sorting the left rear, it was time for the other side....

First, how do you know a car has been standing for waaayyy too long ? If a family of mice decided to call it home at some stage!

Cut out the rust:

Image

Then look closely to spot the evidence of their stay:

Image

Image

Clean that stuff out, and the welding starts anew !

Image

Image

Cover it in stonechip so it doesn't rust again:

Image

Image

Image

Shape it to look like the original:

Image

Ready for a fender. :D

Metalwork approaching completetion, slowly but surely :hangloose:

Just a question for those of you who have done this sort of thing before. Those rear channels going to the engine bay must have been put there for a reason, is it to aid cooling, do they lead to the the heater channels ? Can we leave them closed up as we have without fear of something happening in the long run ?

Oh yes, and Ferdi was apparently very gifted at puzzle building as a kid

No worries karma, those channels that your reffering to will go back. Its meant to let all the water, leaves, etc escape before going to the motor.

Epsiode 12

Ferdi said it best, when he emailed me these pics - reminds him of the song by Ace of Base - more and more :-)

Yes. still no primer, just more rust repair, but we are getting ever closer....

Remember the hole below the vents from the previous episode ?

Image

Image

Some more spots on the rear needed the magic touch.

Image

oh wait, missed a spot:

Image

measure, fit and you guessed it, more welding!

Image

Then protect against the elements:

Image

Image

Image

Image

On a recent trip to Cape Town, I also stumbled upon a couple of items that will go nicely with the notch.

A Type 3 side mirror from Muderick - Anyone have the mounting bracket -or does it take a universal ?

Also found an AA badge, that according to my research is right for a late sixties car - any comments here would be welcome,
and last but not least, a cool rondalia badge which should also be period correct for the notch :

Image

Image

Also managed to find a pair of older spotlights to refurbish and fit to the Notch.
I have several questions about them though. Anyone have any idea what type of car they are from ? Are they really old or do they just look old ?
One of the spotlight's glass is missing, where would I start looking for a replacement ?
Where would I find some globes for them ?

Image

Thanks for watching :-)

Episode 13
Midweek update :hangloose:

When I started this thread, I did not know how prophetic the title would be.
The rust repair work on the body structure being complete, it should go quick from here right ?

Eerr, perhaps not, as the panels also need a GOOD going over.

Ferdi (ably assisted by his "appys") has started to tackle the next phase - weather permitting.

Yes Blitz, pics were taken, many many pics :)

Remember the door hat had no corner, and no hinge ?

Yes, this one - although this is already an improvement, as its clean!

Image

Image
start of something good there !! :hangloose:

Other door

Image

But it also needs a hinge ?

Image

Image

Image

Looks like a door again!

Image

Had more work done than Posh, (or Cher for the older generation  )!

What's that I hear you ask ? What else could possibly be left to repair ?

Tell him what his won bob, some rusted type 3 body panels! : Some pics of the cleanup process - w.i.p.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

What the #@%@# did the PO or PPO do with this ?:
Image

that looks better:

Image

Just look at this neat boot shutline:

Image

seems as if something is a bit ... off, smells like MORE RUST ?

Image

While we are at it..

Image

Maak skoon appy!

And the beam also got its treatment, NO SHANE, it wasn't being cut :-)

Image

phew, I wipe the sweat from my brow just posting this. Keep up the good work at BUGOFF'S BODYSHOP :hangloose: You should trademark that :-)
