Why do small business always deliver late! Machine shops are about the worst of the bunch, They always say they are looking for work and when you offer them a job with a deadline they say they can do it, take you deposit and then deliver late.
My paint job is a a classic example. I wanted the job finished in four weeks, simply because I want to get the car finished and 4 weeks is a fair amount of time for the job, two weeks of preparation, with another week for the primer to cure nicely and then a week for the final coat including wet sanding and polishing.
The guys said it was not going to be a problem, Bulls&^t! I should have received the car back 4 weeks ago! Every week on the Monday I call to find out if I can collect the car and they say that Wednesday Thursday the car will be ready, when I say are you sure they say give them till Friday and it will definitely be finished!
Perhaps they feel that if they deliver late you will be happy just to get the car back without being fussy with the quality! I am going to be pretty fussy, as they have taken so much longer to get the job done, they cannot say that they have been rushed.
I am in the shop fitting industry and when a client says he wants to open a shop or restaurant on a specific day, they open on that day come hell or high water. Why can’t the motor industry work the same way. Perhaps I should have built in a penalty for being late, sometimes we have penalties for not being finished as quoted.
