Mineral based lubricants are very old technology-and are really only required for new engines to allow for break-in of the engines but most don't even protect enough which cause excessive camshaft and valvetrain wear during initial break-in. Primarily the problem would be the incorrect additive packages used in these oils which lack sufficient zinc, phosphorus and anti-wear additive packages.
