Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
Bus is all in pieces again and on a lift....engine out, brakes apart, fuel tanks has to come out, clutch cable crap, acceralator cable has been tied in knots to shorten, handbrake cables shot, etc....I couldn't bring myself to take a picture it's so sad....and maddening
But on ray of light, they will fix but can't commit to next week at this point....

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
So running out of time now fast....today we found that the master cylinder was
Fortunely we found a place called Hydradrive in Bellville that will rebuild and reseal it for me overnight and I can collect at 10am in the morning.
On the good news:-
The brakes (except master cylinder) are all back on with new cables, pipes, shoes and drums.
The steering has all new bushings and damper fitted.
The engine has all had the pre heater pipes made up and fitted as they had been cut off and blocked
The Alternator is fixed the govenor was gone
The new mechanical fuel pump is fitted
The engine was going back into the bus this afternoon so should be running by now.
So fingers crossed that we get the master cylinder fitted tomorrow and we don't come across any other items or I'm going to be out of the water.
Dirk, will call you tomorrow to give you an update.
HR, have you and Tom decided where we will be meeting up at 8am on the Friday?

My dad is actually a clearing agent and he organises the paperwork for importing/exporting. Mainly containers but his specialization is yachts/boats. If you need any help with getting parts here just send me a pm and I will happily ask him for his advice for the cheapest optionsDutch_Diver wrote:Imported from the UK which was a challenge as it was oversize for airfreightbrianj wrote:DD, I see you replaced the whole front floor? did you import a new one, or have it fabbed locally?

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
Thanks ChrisG will remember that but I'm hoping everything I need now will fit in a suitcase.
OK news on the bus.....
The master cylinder has been totally overhauled and collected this morning at 9:30
Engine was put back in around 11:30am with all new engine rubbers to make sure she runs nice and cool
Gearbox oil has been changed with the comment of "I don't think this has ever been changed before"
And for the final bit......Jurgen said will call be later but I can collect tonight or latest tomorrow morning
I hope it's tonight as I still have loads I want to do.....finishing touches like change the horn, fit fire extinguisher, etc. Oh and of cause she needs a bath!!!!!

Looking forward to checking out your bus!!!!

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
I'm starting to panic now.....was supposed to collect the bus last night and nothing. Call this morning and told if I keep calling then it's going to take longer as they have to stop the work and pick up the phone. I'm too impatient I've decided but there's stil stuff I want to do before we leave tomorrow morning so it's going to be a late night if MO does make a return.....?
Will keep you all posted.
