The drag beetle has got a fuel cell that is mounted in front of the suspension. The battery is mounted next to the fuel cell. I can't remember what the suspension priced at, we had it here in the workshop for ages.
We hope that the whole car will weigh in under 500kg when done. The body weighs 30kg. It is made from woven matt with an epoxy layer. Superlight and still strong.
The drag beetle is our company promotional vehicle. So it is not my own.

30 Kg!? 500 Kg!?
Something holy!
That's a bit beyond me - fuel cells - but it sounds muchos larney.
I know Dave Rowley is tinkering with ally beams...out of interest's sake, I'll ask him what his costs.

Another quick update.... I got my intercooler today. At long last. 300mm x 230mm x 65mm with 56mm pipes.
Also got my tappet cover back today with the oil return bung installed. Hopefully I can start up my engine this weekend. I cannot wait

She started on Saturday night 10pm for the first time. Sounds absolutely awesome. First started her up without the turbo to clean the exhaust of any debris and then bolted on the turbo just to hear how she sounds. Turbo sounds a bit noisy, so I will need to get a silencer. (Tenminste waai die turbo my hare deurmekaar)
Decided to start her up with the distributor first, this weekend I will sort out the coil packs.

I'll take a video clip this weekend and post it.

Started the engine up and ran her for about 30 minutes @ 3000rpm to bed in the cam. Got one oil leak on the oil pump return line, the rest of the engine is dry. I've always been amazed by the bolt on tappet covers, they were'nt even tightened properly and still no leaks.
