Re: Blitzkrieg's Fastback
Hey bienie,
Thanks for the heads-up.
Yes, I have met Kobus this past weekend. Going to be raiding that Fasty for parts very soon
I'm not in the market for an engine right now, but it looks like a good buy

Re: Blitzkrieg's Fastback
Small update - 28 January
Okay guys - we are getting closer and closer to putting the engine in
This past weekend I had collected some bits from Rui to convert to the later type release bearing so that the later diaphragm style clutch would be compatible. You basically need the adaptor sleeve and late model release bearing fork....

You have to remove the old seal that is on the gearbox input shaft, then drive the sleeve over the shaft - it has an integral oil seal.
So yesterday evening I decided to start removing the old bearing fork. The hardest part was getting the damn clutch spring off the arm. It took a lot of swearing and levering before the damn thing popped off. Time elapsed: 30 minutes. To remove one spring.Hmmmm

There we go - Spring is off the arm. I fear that it is going to take a lot of time getting the thing back onto the clutch arm because there isn't a lot of space to lever.....We'll cross that bridge when we come to it
As you guys can see, it is absolutely filthy down here

Will have to spend some time cleaning up before everything goes back together again.
My next step is to remove the circlip that holds the clutch arm in place so that everything can come off and the new parts can go on. Have new bushings etc for the clutch fork. I must say that the Bug Me DVD dealing with the gearbox/clutch was very valuable when doing this. Shows exactly how to replace the clutch fork and all the bushings etc
On another tack, this picture is just to show what the wiring looks like

Re: Blitzkrieg's Fastback
Okay guys - the engine is ready to go into the car. I installed the new clutch fork and adaptor sleeve. Unfortunately, the bushing kit that was supplied didn't fit, but luckily the bushing that was on the car was still in good condition, so i just reused that. Then I hit a spot of real luck when putting everything back together again. It was very easy to get the spring back onto the arm, because someone cut away some of the metal above the arm, hence it was easier to get a screwdriver in to lever the spring back on. I have no pictures of this weekend's work as my camera was totally dead and i didn't have other batteries. . .
Next step is just to give the tinwear a lick of paint, clean out the carbs and sort out the alternator wiring. Then the engine can go into the car later in the week

Re: Blitzkrieg's Fastback
Alrighty - I was supposed to put the engine in this weekend I had no help to get it into the car as everyone was away
So anyway, what is the best way to get the engine into the car? I jacked the car up, slid the engine underneath and lowered the car again...
Now what? Do I jack the engine up and then slide it onto the gearbox?
I wanna drive this thing

Re: Blitzkrieg's Fastback
Just lift the engine up into the bay with a jack to the hight of the G/box,then push it back over the spigot shaft.Adjust the jack so that the enginge sits flush with the g/box and bolt it tight.

Re: Blitzkrieg's Fastback
Thanks Chris.
Will enlist some help this evening from my dad and brother and try getting the motor in.
Time is rapidly running out - I need this thing running ASAP so that I can concentrate on my studies again
