split busses are designed to go a maximum speed of 105km/h,but can be taken to 110km/h for short periods of time, like when you overtake,I cruise in my bus at about 85/90km/h most of the time, but when there is a long up hill I do take my bus to about 105 right before I hit the hill, just so that I dont slow right down to about 55 km/h near the top.

Bay window busses you can take to about 120/130km/h,they have more grunt, different gearing and no RD boxes.

And to answere youre previous question,it didnt last long,I braked to bring the speed down to 100 again and then hit the uphill,....I was travelling near Haarties.

In the early 1970's, had a standard '67 1300 Beetle. going down R28 outside Krugersdorp heading towards Pretoria, down the steep hill, (Those days it was narrower and a lot steeper than today), I almost always managed to get the needle to go past 90 MPH and hang straight down the speedo. Bad handling was blamed on the bad road , not the car. Not sur today accurate it was, but it was fast enough.
Clean pants please!

interesting fact is that the drag coefficient..etc for a beetle is very low,its a very aerodynamic car.Id you dont believe me check it out on the net.its more than a formula one car..:D.
At first i was stunned :hangloose:

Dont think it counts here but Ive seen 247 kmph on my aircooled but that is the biiig brother of the beetle.
I know that new and well tuned they were good for 250 kmph so maybe mine is reading a bit optimistic --- or it is well tuned --- but with 20 years in its legs Ill go for optimistic.
My wife said how fast can it go and I showed her. Then she said "Im imprest but how fast can it stop" so I showed her and she said "you are reckless."

NOW;- How fast can you guys stop from that speed . Please be honest.

I had a vwwc golf 1L (2Door) Raced a M3 and at 250 km/h the guy said he couldn't go faster, and I still acelerated to pull out under him.
Those were the young and crazy days, 2.1 golf motor with a modified gearbox, only pity the motor never lasted more that 3 months at a time :D

Wonder what a modified bus will do :?:

My 68 the first time i took it to 90mph it spit out its petrol ine and burned out,my s baja i took to 160km/h down n hill and shat myself because of the excellent brakes i had at that speed...and 140km/h in the buggy with very dodgy k and l pins was also a very scary...hooping to get the buggy to do better than that soon with a new suspension and bigger carb as it was screaming for more petrol at those revs....

They are? :!: If so, I would be very surprised.

Got to agree with Ron, if i remember correctly the Drag Coefficient of a Beetle is 0.41 cant find the Cd for the notch....
