How fast have you...

Post by Blitzkrieg »

...taken your ACVW to?

Just something that I'm very curious about.

So,

tell us your stories...With all the juicy details

(Bus owners need not apply unless it's seriously modified :TIC: )

On Sunday, on my way to the show at the Mint, decided to push the fastback and see what I could wring out. Did wheel alignment and balancing not too long ago so had to test to see if the bad shake was gone.

It was around 8am, absolutely no traffic, found a nice straight road and managed to catch 90 MPH - 144 KM/h. Car was tracking straight and although very noisy, didn't feel unstable...

Measured again with GPS and it tops 143 KM/H so it is accurate...

Was an interesting experience, considering that it is a stock twin carb 1600, with a vacuum leak on one bank, full tank of fuel, heavy Rostyle sparewheel and jack....Maybe that keeps the nose down
If it's too low, you're too old

When I still had my toyota 4age engined bug I once went to 208km/h. The wind noise was absolutely ridiculous. Handling wise was not too bad.

My red historic bug archives 158km/h at Zwartkops and 166km/h at midvaal down the long straight.

It's rated top speed is 90mph. It is amazing, and a credit to T3s that both of you still get those speeds. My Notch also reached 90mph complete with a cloud of Eucalyptus smoke behind it. Good for a sore throat...

Rumours has been around the speedo back to the peg with 15" front wheels, and 195-60 tyres, I should add. Accurate when previously compared to the GPS, but right then, when I was doing around 0km/h :? , I didn't feel like checking the GPS, it all gets rather light and drifty...

My first car, a 1978 Yellow 1600 Twinport, often travelled the highways between JHB and Midrand at a steady 140, with occasional forays to 160. Does get a bit light at the front though....

And you need a change of underwear when the guy in the car in front of you brakes hard at anything above 120, nevermind 160

Stock 1200 with Pierre's long-legged gearbox I've managed a steady 65 - 70mph on a flat, windless road which I think is all you can really expect from my configuration. The slightest suggestion of an incline and it's tickets though. Karma I completely get you about the braking! "Pass me my brown trousers" kinda stuff
