What so your future misses can rather kill you for the money you could have saved and spent on her....rather keep it locked up in the dark little box and just let it be your secret...hahaha...

Ohk, we know a few things:

This is a bastard we talking of -
Muderick wrote:Like I always say to one of my club mates: His Beetle with a Golf 2 litre engine, is a Golf engine with a beetle body around it... :lol
The safety issue -
Tony Z wrote:brakes.... WTF do you think a set of drum brakes is going to think to a 300hp car?
Gearbox. Lets say a recon box is R5000. Thats R5000 every time you decide to dice that Porsche Boxter next to you at the traffic light...
The real cost 'advantage' -
calooker wrote:If you ever upgrade a AC motor ie: bigger cam, pistons etc, you are easily going to throw R15000 at it, so a scooby conv. at R16000 don't sound that bad at all, considering the power & reliability gain it's a damn good option. If I look at what I spent on my 2232cc motor I'm already on my 3rd scooby conversion
Now, what do some of the suppliers such as bugger have to say on this matter - tranny wise, and also I believe bugger does a number of these type of conversions. I mean, Bugger Transmissions 'buggered' the transmission for The Fly, suicyde cum angrrr, and various other beasts (legitimate and bastards  ) here on the forum, and out there on the strips. So bugger, please guide us.

I do recall that this time last year we had boys throw their toys out the cot when it came to the brake conversion issue. Let us agree that one needs a 'good' set-up, whether that be well set-up drums, 4X100 PCD or 5x100 PCD. YOU HAVE TO STOP EFFECTIVELY :flogging:

Impi, what is your wisdom in all of this, I mean you have built a number of mean machines in the past and you know that type of detail required in building a 'safe' vehicle bastard or otherwise :hangloose:

Jammer F@kken jammer  Muds for running Rotary :TIC:
My buggy was put on retirement in 2002 when I built the new Twin spark, big valve wara wara fish paste 2.4 Type 4 motor  As I did not wanted to race it again until I have built a proper roll cage as The Flag buggy has done a 11.1 sec 1/4 mile time in YES YOU ARE READING RIGHT 1999
Now that time was not beaten till think this year by another acvw so my time as SA`s Quickest VW stood for 10Years which I think was good

But the big problem with the high HP ACVW motors for playing in the streets they just don't last and are expensive to keep up and that is why lots of guys go for the W/C conversions
Yes we all would like to have a 2.1 or a 2.3 ACVW turbo bug/bus etc but the costs are just not justifiable
I had my 2.4 motor up for sale for R25K and not even one inquiry. Why as you need another R20K to make it run in a bug with all the necessary bits

I could never do a Scuby conversion for R16k
Here is my quick basic costing
Ej20T motor R6500
EFI R2500
Adapter/Flywheel R2600
Fuel system Piping including surge tank and primary fuel pump which is very important in a bug R4000
new radiator +fan R1800
Water pipes under the car R1500
Exhaust R950
Labor to do conversion R5K
Basic costing of R24850.00 so VW Trends pricing is not out at all.

But If I have to do a Scuby conversion I will charge around R30K as there are alot of things I do extra that the guys that do it for income has to take shorter routs in doing it

Then Stage 1 transmission capable of handling street use 150Kw motor R13500

Here is a rotery one

Hi And welcome I have compelled this list to give everyone interested a indication of what will be needed to do a Propper conversion

Demonstrating my 411 turbo in the drive way minus one gearbox.
(you wont believe the flak from the seatcover)
I have found that less is more when it comes to aircooled performance
around 60 kw makes for a very nice beetle or type three
(this is why the datsun 1400 is so popular amongst some people)
More performance gets you into trouble easily handling, brakes, airodynamics etc
I believe that even a std 1600 runs out of brakes much too quickly.
BUT if I were to do a conversion It would be a subaru.

Hi guys
Seams the conversion price has increased to R17500 but regardless includes a CARB suby motor (1800 if i'm correct) with all the piping, radiator, exhaust, complete modified fuel system with 2 pumps and regulator, safety valves, adaptor's, mountings, tuning and an exhaust which sounds similar to a beetle during idle (completely different story when you rev it) this also includes the labour.

I'VE BEEN TOLD YOU WILL HAVE TO UPGRADE BRAKES, SYSPENSION & FIT WIDER WHEELS AND TIRES TO MAKE THIS A VIABLE DAILY DRIVER.

Hope this helps someone..

Thanx both to Bugger & '72 for the detailed info, you chaps are stars!
Am I correct though in believing that the tranny would need an upgrade in both conversions?
'72, what is the "average" output on that motor quoted?

Ahhh now n/a is a different story doesnt make nearly as much power and doesnt need efi to run....hloni google is your friend but i scheme it should make around 80kw which would still push a bug around with ease....

Normally aspirated meaning it uses no turbo or supercharger or even nitrous if you may....n/a when i said it i should have added carb fed as being easier because a n/a fi motor would still need a fuel management....
