After seeing the picture above, I had decided that I also wanted an SP Beetle steering wheel with a carbon fibre face. Fortunately, farhaad.sonday on the forum has one for me and yesterday, spoke to a guy who works with carbon fibre. He said that it would be very easy to put a layer of carbon fibre weave on the face of the steering wheel and won't cost that much

So as soon as I get the 'wheel from farhaad, I can sort that out

Oh and here's a teaser of what's going to happen to the car in December:





Helped a panelbeater sort out his computer network (and even showed him how people were stealing from him). He was ripped off by an unscrupulous company and was very grateful after I charged him a modest fee to sort everything out correctly. He told me that if he can ever do anything for me, I should just ask,so I asked him about painting my fastback . Told me that if I do all the prep, he'll paint the car for me for not too much money Showed him the colour above and said no problem, it can be done...So this is something to look forward to in the future

Hopefully I can get the engine back in this weekend and sort out the tinwear etc

I'm told that it's a Porsche colour, not too sure which Porsche though

Here are some pictures of the full reds. They look better in real life







I basically took my old lenses, used brake fluid on the insides to remove the paint and was left with the orangish colour that the lense was originally cast in. Thoroughly cleaned them and sent them away to be painted. The lenses have some of the minor hairline cracks that they get after old age, but for now I'm happy with them. The repro full reds from the states are around R300-00 each and it cost me R150-00 to get my faded Hellas painted in the red ...

Difference between amber/red and full reds



Alot of people have expressed concerned over the safety and visibilty of having a flashing red indicator. I did a few tests after fitting the lenses and the indicator seems to be quite visible, it is orange-red and the brake light is noticeably red-red

I have my snowflakes act this way, brake and indicators all flashing red.

You do get some idiots who don't notice, but overall people do see it and it works.

rockstar bro! Looks Noooiice! Hmm brake fluid you say?? Gotta try that one out, I was considering spraying my lenses grey/smoke, but the red looks wiked also, hmm gonna find a spare lense and fool around. What paint did you use? The Duplicolour, or a thinned out version of car paint?

I don't know if Beetle lenses were painted on the inside like Type 3 lenses. Experiment at your own peril.

Be very, very careful with the brakefluid, it chows paint quicker than a Fleetline leaving the country.

I have no clue what paint the guy used, could be candy red, I don't know.

The problem with using the Tamiya/Duplicolour lense paint is that it doesn't stay glossy for a long time and fades quite quickly...

Lol yeah I have had fun with brake fluid and car paint before. I think the lens were painted on the inside. But I have a broken lense I can experiment on. The trick with the duplicolour is to rub it down with like a 1500 or 2000 grit water paper and hit a clear coat over it, not too sure how to rub down the inside of a lens though haha. But it works.
