Well, a few friends and i were supposed to fit the engine in tomorrow, but i'm stuck in bed with a gastric 'flu and can barely move
. My intention is to take the car for the ghia breakfast later next month, but then again i've failed at all my deadlines so far

That would have been cool, but as i was sick since friday morning... Thanks for the offer pine. There are quite a few bays sitting in yards in atteridgeville, i've never stopped to check them out.
Anyway, flu really got me ugly this weekend and i'm still a bit weak and shivery, so managed to get no work done on the car. However, a friend of mine is coming to help me with the engine tomorrow after work, so hopefully i can speed things up a bit

We are finally getting somewhere!! I have managed to prop the engine up on two tyres, in the engine bay.
Now I just have to jack it up a tad and get the beast bolted on

Finally! Managed to get the engine installed. The only thing that i need are two nuts for the bottom studs - none of the ones that i have fit
. So if anyone does have two of them for a type 4 engine, i would appreciate them. Will post some pics in the morning,starting to feel all excited again

Those nuts should be a standard thread with a 17mm head - available at a hardware store near you. Keep us updated!

Will check at the hardware tomorrow. I went thru a whole pile of nuts today and couldn't find a single one that would fit
. However, the top bolts are securely bolted in. Expect to see some pretty strange questions from me in the next couple of days regarding the ignition system

Here is the engine installed. I still have to remove the silver paint from the block with a wire brush. The cylinder tins are currently stripped to bare metal and are awaiting a shot of paint.

Quick pic of the 4-1 exhaust - Will be painting it with fireplace or normal automotive heat-resistant paint. I also need to find a Yoshimura 'bike muffler for it.
I first thought that we would have some clearance issues with the exhaust and rear valance, but I'm pleased to say that everything fits perfectly



Ever since I first came across this picture, I've wanted an exhaust exactly like it.And now I have something similar

I'm going to try out that 'bike muffler for now, if it's too loud then I will have to go with a suitable Bosal silencer.
What I also need to get is one of these fan shroud adapters.


Due to the rear valance being hacked when it was WBX converted (And in the process losing the ring that the fan boot normally attaches to), I will make a custom boot from a truck air cleaner coupling and a fibreglass sheet to patch the area that was cut out.
Of course, it will be properly fixed with the correct metal when we change the entire rear valance, someday in the future.
Will be contacting IMPI Renn Werk for one of these brilliant adapters as soon as I get the stuff that I'm supposed to get for IMPI
Things to do
- Sort out and extend alternator wiring.
- Get oil screen and install. Fresh oil can also go in.
- Swop the pulley from the Type 4 alternator onto the WBX one.
- Clean up and install the WBX rockers that I have onto the Type 4 rocker shafts - The 1700 ones are badly corroded due to the PO's white-silicone tappet cover gasket
- Make up new mounts for the rear engine support bar.
- Clean up the carburettors, make up new gaskets, sort out linkages and install.
- Get the tins and tappet covers painted.
- Get harness for 2,1 dissy and hook the dissy upto the TCI and coil.
On the other hand, my neighbour has started work on the wiring, albeit slowly.
