Excellent work! I'm following all this work on the rear suspension very keenly in anticipation of my own IRS conversion that's going on a donor chassis. Is that a Type 3 gearshifter that i see in the picture?

Yes, it is - it will be shortened once the seats are in - and obviously not have Type 3 knob

Update Saturday, 30 May 2009: Sprintstar paint
Masking and painting an EMPI sprintstar wheel? Easier said than done...
Since I got the compressor a few weeks ago, I fooled around with it a bit, and sprayed the innner part of one of the rear (widened) Sprintstars black last week. The rim part is chromed, so I had to mask it off, to prevent overspray. Because of the deep dish, it is also quite difficult to reach the inner parts of the rim center, but at the end this was the result:
(I considered the Porsche 911 Turbo Fuchs look for a moment, but decided against it a split second later..

)
This morning, I started masking the off the black parts, for spraying the silver highlights (which I had mixed to match the silver of the two painted front Sprintstars). Quite a challenge, as a Sprintstar does not have a definite 'ridge' for sticking the masking tape, like a Rostyle. After about an hour of masking, I was ready to paint. I am still not very confident with the spray gun (it is one with the paint reservoir at the bottom, I'd like to get a gravity feed gun at a later stage), so I decided to spray the silver with the airbrush. After a few coats, and the paint dried in the sun, I removed the masking tape....
To be honest, I am not 100% happy with the rim, but it is my first attempt (ever) - so the second one can only be better. Perhaps I'll do this one over some time. I wanted to spray the clear coat as well, but there is some terrible winds here in Johannesburg at the moment, and it will be dark in two hours time, so it will have to stand over for the time being.
A quick glance in the corner of the working space will give you an idea where all the money is going. I'm almost feeling like a Volkspares shareholded at the moment....

The valve covers have also been transformed, from
to
powder coated in black, and I am busy polishing the fins and EMPI logo to stand out, like they were originally when they came from the factory (sorry for the $hitty cellphone pic)

Just keep going at the gun. It looks quite good from here, 100% improvement from what it was.
