Hi Blitz. It was dropped two splines.

The bad news... during the race one of my carbs got a fuel leak. On the slow down lap the fuel ignited and I created a flaming red beetle :(
The damage is repairable. Will post some pics.

Man that's a real bummer, hope you get things back on track soon.
I think those Air-tec filters also contributed to the flames, personally I don't like them as the fuel standoff has them saturated in no time, seen them burn before because of a back fire, get the real thing, that is my personal oppinion.
If you need Weber rebuild kits I have a set for 40's or 44's R350 original equipment from Redline-Weber.

I think the biggest flames came from those damn air filters.

The damage could have been worse, I'll just patch it up for now and fix it nicely at the end of the year. We've still got two races left.

The Datsun was moved to class D. He broke out of class at Zwartkops. I did however give both the capri's and the gunstun contrina a hiding.

Hi YvaneS
I'm not up to scratch with the prices. I know that the ally casing is in the region of R10k. For a high spec engine (parts only) you will probably look in the region of R65k.

Last night I turned into Louis the panelbeater again
Sanded the affected areas to bare metal, masked and painted the primer.

So tonight I'll wet sand the primed patches and paint the red on the weekend when there is more temperature.

I ordered the oil lines today, so tonight I will reassemble all the oil lines. The fan housing and engine tin will go to the sand blasters tomorrow. (Thanks Sean)

I also got a email from the historics comitee....

Attention: Louis Cloete

The HRCR have received various complaints about the Engine management system on your Beetle. In order for us to confirm if this is allowed or not the vehicle will have to be inspected before the next race meeting which is on the 8th August at Midvaal.

Regards,

Alan Poulter
---------------------------------------------------------------

We'll see what they come up with, it's the first time that I've heard a carburetor called a management system :)

Well you manage to power of the engine with the right foot which is connected to the carbs so in dumb ass land its a management system..... :jerkoff:
