The old one step forward, two steps back routine...

Just hang in there, its really tough to keep yourself motivated in winter as you say the working conditions at night are not exactly optimal.

If you're busy at work and are having difficulty getting around to picking up the backing plate plugs maybe we could meet at the cars in the park as its less than two weeks away?

Hou die blinkkant boe!

Sorry but I don't know how to get all the deeltekens and things...

Update, Monday 10 August 2009

 On this Monday evening I have to hang my head in shame, since I have just counted the days since my last update - and they amount to no less than almost four weeks, in other words almost a full month.

So many things have happened since my previous post a month ago... personal, emotional, physical - you name it!

W.r.t my even earlier post of a major 'happening' that will most certainly influence the build of HW2, I reckon the cat is out of the bag by now. Yes, I have bought another ACVW - the most I have ever paid for a car without a radiator, and to be honest, I am starting to have my doubts in hindsight... Nonetheless, all will be revealed within the next few days, since my 'investment' will in all probability manifest from 'weekend cruiser' to 'temporary daily driver', although it is not what I wanted from the beginning. I will probably take delivery of it in the next few days, and will most certainly keep the Forum updated. All I can say by now, is 'relax IMPI & Fig - it is NOT a 911 or Samba'. (And NO Beetlefanatic - it is NOT a Schwimmer, although I wouldn't mind... )

Back to HW2... it is that weird situation of 'so near, yet so far' and it is frustrating me more than anyone can imagine. In a nutshell, the chassis is on all fours, in other words 'potentially' rolling - but I still need to get the adapters for the front Golf disks to make it run on the Sprintstars. As for the Sprintstars.... I still need to finish the paint on two of them, and the general GP climate is not playing with (it was raining SlushPuppy last weekend, for example). Then I need to sort out the tie-rod ends for the front suspension, as I don't have the elusive tie-rod end with the 'loop' for the steering damper yet...

To get the HW2 chassis out of the bottom-floor flat (a.k.a makeshift garage), I need to take everything apart in order to get it through the standard door. I do not want to do this right now, as it will then be standing underneath a car port, exposed to the elements (weather, spiders, dust etc... ), but that will be the next logical step to get it ready for display at Ferdie's at the end of the month (hell, less than 3 weeks  )

I can just imagine - if this was a Chip Foose project, they'll have it running in the next 24 hours, but alas - this is a PINE project with a total manpower of ONE, namely yours truly...

Watch this space

PS - a few pics I took an hour ago to assure you that HW2 is still existing! :hangloose:

It's all in a name... a dream... an obsession.... a pilgrimage... a DESTINY

Thanks, Brett :hangloose:

Ironically, a buggy is kind of 'bottom of the food chain' - in other words, the simplest form of internal combustion transport one can find on the planet. Many of its parts are sourced from the local Builder's Warehouse or Autozone, for example. It is the dedication many people (and I am not one of them!) put into the restoration of a specific model of car, like a vintage Beetle or Ghia, that impresses me...

Pine, Lovely to see the progress. That's one of the best chassis I've seen. I can't believe there are so many people on the forum with big projects underway....it's great to see all being saved or transformed into something amazing.

Can't wait to hear what you have purchased!

Pine, it looks beautiful! :hangloose:
Please tell me you're not going to actually take it on the road. It's going to get all dirty and varked-up. :crying: :crying:
I have a plan. Get a piece of granite and put it over the chassis and turn it into a custom VW pool table. At least you would not have to worry about getting it out the door. :D

I am saying nothing about my two projects until I got my garage sorted out(still waiting on that geezer to come back from holiday to come and lay down my concrete floor  ). Well, actually, I shold say two 'main' projects. HAve too many others, honestly. so I wont HJ this thread..... Good work!!

Pine, that chassis puts most of our work to shame. Baie mooi.
Get a pair of extra hands or two to help, turn it sideways, and you should be able to manouver it out the door without having to do any dissassembly.

You have us all VERY curious.
If it is not a 911, 181, schwimm, samba or obviously buggy....It has to be either an OVAL (last thing I would imagine you would buy as a daily), a KG, or a "regular" split bus?

BTW, have you sold the green sunroof monster yet?
