Buggoff.

I've mailed a few suppliers to see how much they will charge me to ship the cab floor bits out to me, so will update here.

Gerson is shipping me a RHD cab floor, should be here in a few weeks so that's sorted. On the drop sides, I might try and get them fixed. Sourcing any in decent condition is proving hard, so might as well see what can be done with the original ones.

Every body loves rust pics, I think it makes them feel better about their project, so here's mine..

basically the outriggers are all pretty f#Ck, which is usual. Buggoff will be replicating them himself, which is handy. Overall the rust on this SC isn't as bad as you'd think. Anyone who thinks they can find a rust free split in SA these days is deluded. They have all been shipped out. I heard just today of that company down in Margate who have 29 splits being sorted for the overseas market.

Oh and I love a challenge anyway

That looks good hope the restoration goes well. The split screen single and double cabs are the bomb. I am also stoked to see one in Durban. Also just read the post about 29 being sent abroad.... What's up with that? I hope there are still a few around next year am hoping to be back in Durbs by then. I have been looking for one but they not easy to track down. Good luck with the rust someone's gonna be busy.... It's good to see people keen to put the work in to get vws back into shape. Good luck again am sure it is going to look awesome when done.

They all get sent over as there are very few people locally who are interested in them..not to mention a lack of parts to fix them

It's not that they are not interested, it's that they don't want to pay market prices because they haven't woken up yet. By the time they do, the buses will all be in UK or Australia. We have the same access to parts as everyone else, we pay our money and import the ones we can't find. Oh, and if you look, you'll see it's the older generation putting up the dosh for these restorations, not the youngsters that are just starting out with young families and a moerse mortgage, with a few exceptions. It's the well established in the UK, those that here in SA get the mid life crisis and end up growing pony-tails (fag-tags) to replace their comb-overs, getting an ear ring and buying Harleys and Hummers.

fk-mi, I'd rather drive a bus... thanks.

It's not only the rust free ones that are sent out. I've seen some buses being lovingly restored in UK that would have been cut up for scrap metal here in SA.

But whatever... this reeks of NEED and I'm not going there.

Yep Ron, pretty much nailed it. Nice to see this one being saved though.

You mean you didn't go get those three tattoos Ron?
One shows you do it to follow a trend, two says you set the trends, three means you're a real rebel.......

Firstly I need to say how damn cool this community is here. We might be small but that doesn't stop people like Hitlers Revenge going out of his way to help. He put my doors on a truck from CT to Durbs. Seriously very cool gesture and one I cannot thank him enough for doing.

Picking them up was no problem, thank god for drop tops:

doors look great, i'll be getting them blasted and cleaned up and will be sorting out the really small areas of rust out myself.

Slow movement on this one due to massive documentary workloads and Mr Metal doing nightshift.

In the meantime, my SA kit has arrived in London, which is a plus. I now need to get that back home along with all the other goodies I've collected. I'm still on the hunt for a SC load bed that isn't crap and drop gates, although Fig said he had a set he might be willing to part with.

Hoping the metal work starts soon...
