Great job Pine,
Will be following your build with great interest ,and expectation. I was wondering today how a full carbon fibre chassis would handle. We are currently building a 60 foot cat out of the stuff and the strength is incredible. Would be radically expensive but you definately would not have to worry about rust!!

Only saw the latest pics now!!
Pine, glad to see some work is being done there for a change on real cars. Enough of this mucking about with the toys.
Wow, looks as good as anything I have seen on any forum, local and overseas, hats off to you. Keep it up and you will have one the best buggys ever built.

Pine,
Luckily you built your chassis correctly and not like this poor soul who didn't know what he was doing and his chassis ended up on the floor

Thanks for the compliments, the pics of the chassis taken last Saturday was with the adjusters not set yet, it will only be done once the body is mounted.
Bugger disassembled the HW2 gearbox for me in the week, seems like we need to replace the reverse gear, some bushes and seals - thank you very much Bugger, I appreciate it!
Next week I will get the replacement steel brake lines and master cylinder, as well as the exhaust that I had ceramic-coated.
Thanks also to Buggyfan and Skymac for the wiring harnesses they gave me, I am now able to re-wire almost the entire HW2 using the original VW wires, with the correct gauge and colours, as was the plan from the start. Wanted to start lying the wires out (in the sun) tomorrow, but I don't know what is going on with the weather, as it is raining cats and dogs here in Johannesburg, and I'm perhaps not as happy as Dean Martin at the moment

Update Saturday 5 December 2009 : Waking the Neighbours!
Got the 4-into-1 exhaust and J-pipes back in the week after I had it ceramic coated, very happy with the result - a bit pricey, but worth it.
Put the engine tinware, carbs and exhaust back on the motor after IMPI put the right-hand side cylinder head on for me again (previous one donated to the Khaki Cruiser one Monday night in August, remember?) The IRS box is still with Bugger, so I put the motor on the gearbox of the yellow buggy, only to start it. After fiddling around a bit with the timing and contact breaker points gap, I started the motor for the first time again since August, no leaks and it sounds like SERIOUS business!
It is starting to look like a buggy factory in my driveway....
