know the feeling blitz a had to work my studies and my buggy build in aswell also every sat. and then i had to go work...but after 7months i can see the light...hang in there...just counting the days til i go fetch my baby...its been 3months and counting...p.s blitz im not gona make the zwartkops event,going to the drifting...

I have just closed a deal for buying a disc brake front and IRS rear suspension from an Auto Variant

Will be collecting it next weekend.

The disc brakes will be going onto this car and the IRS will be safely stored away until such time that a gearbox is found...

I'm motivated to work on it once again!!

Excuse my ignorance, but what is an IRS?

independant rear suspension (2 points of movement )(CVs )as apposed to typical swing axel on most ACVWs !!!

Okay, so the IRS and disc brakes came with this '69 Variant attached





Was by pure chance that I got this car. About two weeks ago, a guy was driving by and stopped after seeing the white fastback in the yard. He told me that he had the Station Wagon version and asked if I was interested in spares. I said no, not really but when he mentioned that it had the wheels with the 4 bolts and Automatic transmission, I suddenly became very interested

He towed it from Roodepoort to my place using a 1500 Beetle and an A-frame Took something like 2 hours....

I will be stripping this car over the weekend for any other usable bits and get rid of the rest

The disc brakes will go on sometime in the near future, the IRS will stored safely away until the rest of the parts needed for the conversion are sourced.

Some minor setbacks

Unfortunately, this project has had quite a few frustrating setbacks .

- The guy who started doing my wiring is suddenly very busy with building his house and can't find time to help me. After reading up on the STF etc, I have decided to try and wire everything up myself...

- I had painted my engine tins with some high heat paint, but when I got to them in the morning the paint was lifting off. I really felt like hurting someone, after all the time that it took to baremetal and prep them. And after leaving them for another day, they developed some surface rust. So I have double work now. Perhaps I should just shell out the cash and have them powdercoated...

- The NOS master cylinder that I was promised (Not by anyone on this forum fortunately) turned out to be a late Beetle one and not for a '68 Type 3. Person in question started bitching and moaning when I asked him to give me a refund or to swop for some other part that I can use. Battle still continues

- I just can't seem to find the time to work on it anymore, but I suppose with some perseverance, anything can be done

One of the positives of this project is that I now know what goes where, and when I eventually start with the other fasty, it will be much easier...

Spoke to him and he will contact me when he gets his Square. It had a Golf engine in there before and some of the metal has been cut out...

Small update

I was at Dirk's place in Skinner Street on Friday to chat to him about sorting out the Fastback. He has agreed to sort out the wiring for me, so I will be taking the Fastback through to him after my exams are over, at the end of the month. That is the single biggest thing that is hindering progress on the Fasty...

While I was there, I also had a look at a friend's sweet '69 Fasty that's there for some pretty major engine work. And I met a follow forum member known to us as Pine. I love the colour of your new daily driver

I have finally decided on the choice of wheel. After seeing the Radel Beetle with them one, I have decided that the Jetta steel wheels would look quite cool on the Blitzmobile. I have to mention Karmakoma here - he was kind enough to give me the ones that he had - THANKS A MILLION DUDE . I picked them up a few weeks ago and they are pretty straight. I only have 3, but have already started looking out for a 4th one.I will put these wheels on after I finalize my disc brake conversion, hopefully in time for Ferdies Swop Meet in August

(Would still like a set of Audi 500 Turbo BBS wheels though - For the other Fasty )

Here is what they can look like - this set was fitted to a forum member's MK1 Golf



The plan is to have the wheels acid dipped and then powdercoated in BMW Silver Grey. The Rostyles that came with the car were in a dark grey colour, so I think that the Silver Grey wheels would contrast nicely.



I have also received my Porsche 924 speedometer. Decided to give it a trial fit and it fits snugly with a few minor mods!



Amazingly,the Type 3 cable screws straight on and it works perfectly with no mods at all. The best part of this speedo is that it has a trip meter and it runs off the front wheel, so it should be accurate. It would have cost me at least twice the price to import an original Type 3 KM/H speedo from the UK, so this was a perfect option

Those wheels look great when done in silver! Cool Idea, and fitting a Porsche speedo is also going to look GREAT!
btw. If I remember correctly, I had 205/55/16's on those rims. Nice and wide
