'64 - Split bus resto....my project

Thanks VWC.....certainly starting to get there. Thing I'm struggling with at the moment is that everything need to go in together. I want to put the seats in but I need the panels in to corectly measure. Problem is upholster wants interior in to make the panels up and the cushions....can't win. Will get there!

So....not so clever me decided to take the bus into Cape Town down the N2 today as I needed to attend meeting by the V&A. Everything was going perfect, cruising between 90 & 100 and all good . Then by the M7 exit the engine died......

Had to swing across 2 lanes and headed for the hardshoulder almost taking a Taxi with me..... Thinking to myself....oh shit!!!!!

So popped the engine cover to find that the pin from the fuel pump had popped out the otherside. Knowing that I just needed to push the pin back in and I could get her running again. Again stupid me had emptied the bus of everything, and I mean everything, not even a wheel wrench let alone a screwdriver was in the bus

So standing there for 20 mins thinking to myself why doesn't anyone stop....

Then a tow truck stops and the first thing he says is "You don't want to stop here....they kill whites here whilst they rob you"

My reply...."I didn't stop here to take a piss you know! , do you think I'm that f#Ck stupid"...."Do you have a screwdriver by any chance?"

So after 5mins of looking in his glovebox, out come the oldest screwdriver I've ever seen. Not wanting to upset the nice tow truck man who had stopped to give that great advice, I used it to get the pump aligned so that the pin could be put back in place. I wrapped some mashing tape around it to hold it in place.

Now having almost been killed / robbed, I feel very lucky to have only come away with only my fingers being burnt wrapping the f#Ck tape around a very hot aircooled (my arse) engine & R200 lighter for the lone on the screwsriver....didn't even let me keep it .....it was 35 degrees outside today so not sure there was a lot of cooling going on.

I feel like a total but at least I learnt a lesson without permenant injury which I would like to share with the Forum so you can also learn from this.....

Interestingly you can make that tool into a "V" and "W".

OK so from the shopping trip went a little over board and whilst I was in different shops from the misses, bought one of the tools above and an ultimate survival kit. Then when I met back up with Emma (the misses), she said she had got me one of the multi-tools from Woolworths so now I have 2 ....

After doing the shopping and being invited to a braai at 5pm, didn't get much done on the bus but here's tonights pcitures....more tomorrow as it's the last day of my long weekend to try and finish....not sure I have much luck of that

Not great news but at least good news.....

Only half way done...ran out of time but got loads of bits in now just need many nights after work to get the finishing bits in.

Thanks Tony....I need to buy a grill still as the sub did not come with one....Jessica (my 3 year old) has already started to poke it with her fingers so I agree I need to find one very soon!

BF...the lights are for a ZIG unit that I purchased in the UK and bought back in a suitcase. It's a cool piece of kit that usually in fitted in campers and caravans. It allows for you to plug into site 240v electrics as well as hook up a leisure battery & car battery charging both when connected to 240v or when driving. I have all the internal electrics now on a leisure battery so that the bus will always start after a hard night of partying I gave the fridge a miss as I could find on in SA which could do 12 & 240v and was a proper fridge not a cool box. Looked for ages and I couldn't fit a UK one into the suitcase
