That means the jig vs uses to build the rollcages must also be out of square then for all of them to have the same problem

This is a simple case of VS weighing up the costs?
How many people will notice the issue and complain about it, against how much time and effort would it be to sort out the problem at the source.
I walked into VS pta west last week and they had NOTHING...........that place used to buzz when Johan (doc), Chris were there. They'd always try and help out. Now?................forget it.

I've had exceptionally good service from Volkspares so far. Perhaps I am just too fussy?

I do all my business with Volkspares Jet Park, and occasionally stop at the Pretoria branch if I am in the area. The one guy at VS Pta helped me two weeks ago to find those screws that fastens the pre-68 rear Beetle lens to the base. He searched for about half an hour between their spares, and eventually found four good ones. They didn't want a cent for it! I really appreciated their troubles and they will most certainly see me for business again

Re: Hot Wheels 2 - Pine's new Buggy build thread
I have the steering column setup off a Golf - the indicator and wiper stalks will be wired up and used, complete with the 'pull action' to activate the window washer, no switches on the dash except for the headlights and hazards. Found a new ignition switch in the week, looking for the plugs from a Golf harness that goes into the indicator and wipers switches on the column, if anyone can help?
The steering shaft will need to be shortened though.

Re: Hot Wheels 2 - Pine's new Buggy build thread
The 'Macgyver' plan with dim/bright switch I had on HW1 was crude, but worked perfectly. I bought a micro switch with a metal extension, as in the pic below, for around R 20 from an electronic shop. All you need is a low-current earth to the dim/bright relay to switch the brights on or off (with the headlights on), or to 'flash' your headlighs when they are switched off. I stuck the switch with epoxy to the bottom of the universal indicator switch (like the one FFF has for his Speedster), with the small metal 'lever' extended below the indicator arm. When I wanted to switch the the brights on, I just pulled the little lever towards me and voila!buggyfan wrote:pine ,you mentioned a micro-switch on the indicator stalk of hw1 for dim/brights ,have you got a pic or know where to get one
Many switches have 3 terminals, ensure you connect it to the NO (Normally Open) terminal, ignore the NC (Normally Closed) one.

Re: Hot Wheels 2 - Pine's new Buggy build thread
Quick Update 27/07/2010
Today was pleasant and warm here in Jhb, and it almost felt like summer is on its way. I came home a little bit earlier than usual, and decided to start cutting the floorboards from the aluminium plate. This is the rough cut results, they still need to be trimmed slightly to fit inside the chassis:

The garage where HW2 is being stored was used by some builders who did work on the premises, and in spite of the fact that the buggy was covered, is was still a bit dusty, so HW2 got its first official WASH today, albeit with the body off the chassis

I trial-fitted the tail light housings, after spending about an hour to trim the edges of the metal, so that it fits the contours of the bodyshell perfectly. If all goes well, they will be chromed like those that were on HW1

This is a duplicate of the 'what have you done to your car today' thread, but what the hell!

Went to go and fetch the HW2 roll cage yesterday with the Khaki Cruiser. Just thought of it - it is the second time the roll cage have been (moving) on an air cooled, first on Craffie, and now on the Squareback hopefully next time it will be mounted on the buggy![]()
