Update 6/11/2010

A lot of time has past since my previous post, but in the meanwhile I've been busy with a few small things on HW2 - not really important enought to post here, but still neccessary to complete the project. At this stage I need to have the roll cage powder coated first, then I can carry on with the final assembly.

Got the front steel wheels back - not 100% happy with the work done on them, but they have to do for now. I also got the seats back that were handed in a few months ago for re-upholstery, after threatening the black idiot who worked on them with legal action (an a few p...sklappe  ). They are only halfway completed, and it looks terrible - obviously I did not pay for it, and reposessed my seats. In the meanwhile I will use a set of old buckets I have, and cover them with a set of blue and black 4x4 off-roader seat covers I bought at a a fraction of what the re-upholstery would have cost me. I am pretty gatvol for pathetic work done by so-called 'professionals' for which they expect good money, and I am sure many of you feel that way too. I really go out of my way to support local initiative, businesses and skills but if someone f..s me around, they will NEVER see me again!

For now - a 'mock-up' pic I took this morning of HW2 to get an idea of what it will (hopefully) look like in the end..

Ha! One day when I'm in a happier mood, ask me what happened to my Porsche seats when I gave them to a so-called Pro. Took me two months to get them back, in a rather depressing state compared to what they were like :jerkoff: Fortunately the uncle who's doing my carpeting is going to try and salvage what he can from the mess...

I think that the general attitude in the car scene is like this - crap work at an exorbitant rate with sh#### service....and people ask why ACVWs are exported??!

Nevertheless, the Buggy is looking great :hangloose:

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the compliments and it is a great motivator. I've just spent the past 3 hours adjusting the rear torision bars (again), but they are right now - at last!

When I assembled the chassis last year, I couldn't really determine the rear suspension height/stiffness, as the engine and body was not on yet. I ended up setting them up too stiff - they were so hard that the rear didn't even move downwards with TWO persons on it! So earlier this year I disassembled everything again and adjusted it - but it turned out the suspension was too soft, and as you can see in the pic above, HW2 resembled a low rider for a while - yuck!

Unfortunately I had to take the outer cv's on both sides off, in order for the trailing arm to drop low enough to seperate from the (double) spring plates. I managed to set both sides at the same angle (b.m.o. and improvised protractor) an lucklily I did not lose any fingers putting the spring plates under tension for the re-assembly

I did not take any pictures, as it is quite a messy job (eg. CV grease - yuck! :kots: ) - but you can read all about the procedure here  http://www.vw-resource.com/rearaxle.html
