Re: Wrek Rescue - aka The Notch
Don't think there will be any minds changed
, BUT, nothing wrong with another red notch on the forum. Go for it! Didn't you read, red makes them go faster
.
I also got a pic of what the rear end of the Notch looks like after Bugoff cut the rust out:

This is before he starts welding in the new metal.

No thats not cool man, you dont want to put sooo much work into a project just to have someone copy it.
I'll definitly NOT do that

Re: Wrek Rescue - aka The Notch
Went to go see the upholsterer today to make final colour choices on the interior.
Hope I made the right decision! Will post some pics once the actual work starts.

Re: Wrek Rescue - aka The Notch
Took the set of Empi 5's to a friend of mine who works and has contacts in the chrome and plating industry for an opinion.
He had a good look and said it would not give the desired result if I chrome them as is, since they were cast, there is a rough texture to the centre of the rim, so, for a proper finish,he is of the opinion that they would need to be polished first. This would mean a twofold cost then, first polish, and then chrome all over the polished surface. Would look great then I am sure, but that would also mean twice the cost. I actually quite like the current silver finish with the polished lip in any case, so not sure if I need to go to all that expense.
Plan is thus to clean them nicely, remove the old yellow overspray, and then respray the centres silver again (or touch them up at least). Would I need to use any special paints? Would rattle can silver be fine? Any other advice on spraying an Empi 5 ?
If I stuff it up, then at least there is an excuse to get them polished

Re: Wrek Rescue - aka The Notch
i would have the centre piece sand blasted so theyre nice and clean, then have them painted with clear coat so they stay that way. will look better than any silver paint.the lip/dish must be polished.

Re: Wrek Rescue - aka The Notch
i also recomend sandblasting as it also smooths the rough texture a bit. i metalic silver paint on the dish afterwards could do the trick

Re: Wrek Rescue - aka The Notch
We are all swamped with work at the moment
So progress has been slow.
Seats have been upholstered at least. Work should start on the roofliner and doorcards next.
Glad to see someone is "watching"
Hope to have a bumper episode sometime next week
