OK, so this I gather is a locally made part by our good friend IMPI.

Therefore calling IMPI, come in IMPI

Started again on reassembly of the Fastback, Spent the day putting the final coat of Rubber-riser on the under body, wheel wells, and other exposed steel parts.

Cleaned the rear chrome reflector holders, and fitted to the fenders, before refitting the fenders, with new Fender "I" rubber.

Fitted the re-worked bumper brackets, and the re-chromed rear bumper.

Tomorrow, will be the turn of the front of the car......................... :D .
Full day of work ahead......

Herman

(note to self) still have to rework the door hinges pins....

He is probably so busy now and enjoying the reassembly that he finds no time to post.

Some of us who have experienced this condition of satisfaction will understand. The pleasure of seeing your vision coming true. The motivation to work on projects until early hours of the morning. (And then still getting up early to work on the project.)

We must just be patient and give him some time.

The next job was to clean the car and ready it for the final Rubber Seal coat, before assembly could start.

Then the fenders had to be fitted with the Fender "i" rubber, As the previous owner had only used Half the screws, I had to get from Midas, Screws and fixing clips. The Back fenders had the reflector Chrome housings fitted 1st, and then fitted followed by the back bumper......

Image

Image

The observant of you would have noticed that I fix the Chrome housing with counter sunk screws, and not with the reflector, as is normal with the Type 3.
This is because the correct reflectors are hard to come by, so now all I have to do is stick it in with double sided tape, so future replacement will be easy.....

Then the preparation for the front fenders started....

Image

Then the front end with fenders, crash bar, and chrome bumper was next.

Image

Durring the long stay at the Spray Shop, the door hinges rusted up, Had to take then off, but as this could damage the door, the hinges, and the paint work, I decided to drill holes into the hinge at a downward angle, to make oil pockets.

This has done the trick, the oil has penetrated the hinge, with out having to remove it, and should I have removed them, besides the possible damage, the pin would have been to small for reuse, after cleaning, now the hinge is fine and no play.

Image

Only when seen in the sun, can you notice the sparkle in the Clear Coat, just livens up the colour a level..... :D

Image

Also had to place the new dash in place to get the full effect, Can not wait to fit it, but alas, I have to get the electrics done and tested before the dash can go in permanently ....

Image

Next the prep for the sound proofing, and then the wiring.......

Till next time..

Herman
