Hi All,
Have received my Fasty, by Road transport today, did not want to tow it 1000Km, (why kill it before its home)

Have started stripping it for prep. ready for spray.

Have stripped all panels, and found lot of surface rust, but no holes.

Will be taking it right down to base metal, e-coating all parts, and repainting it back to RED

Car was colour code 12 (think black) (or white) then Red and now back to RED

Have pic's but cannot up load them yet (too Thick) but we will work this out. (maybe ask Blitz )

Can't go wrong with a Type 4 in a Fasty...

12 would be black originally.

Bugger;- Got the fasty , without engine , and then got the engine, with wiring and computor for injection, still do not know if it works, but that is for an other day.

To update, I have striped all carpets, padding, sound proofing out of the car, and now found rust holes. But have also found a 1972 1/2 cent , this will reduce the cost already.

Found a lot of water under the sound proofing, this has been there for years, Note to self;- Make sure all window rubbers are water tight.

Will be sending seats for upholstry (white) and redoing the carpets (Black)

All loose panels and bits will be sent out for paint striping, e-coating and repainting.

Will be spending most nights wire brushing rust, covering with "Rust Converter" and priming the next day.

Is that my old Fasty??

1. I bought/sold it in Bloemfontein
2. It was factory black, with a red respray and white/grey interior
3. It was traded to 69Bug in 2005, and I believe it ended up at Volksieshop?

(I never actually drove the Fasty, had plans to restore it, but had to move to GP - Note HW1 in the background )

Blitz; Thanks again, still have to tell me if you have a shorter system to load pic,s then Eden, Ooops, Eben.
As far as model go's, it has some 68 in it, but the vin # falls in the year 67

Karmakoma; You right, my old morris 10 was rust held together with small body parts.
But the more i wire brush, the more it seems local to normal spots, with surface rust between.
Must say that I am on the 2nd drilling machine already, not to mention the round wire brushes that do the work.

Pine; It would look like the same fasty, did get it in Flowerfountain, thats not far from Crowntown. Would love to get more history on it, as it seems as if it has been standing for a long time. Do you know who painted it ? and fitted the carpets. Do you know what year it was 1st registered.

With regard to what I paid for it, well I do not kiss and tell, not yet anyway. may get in the way of business

For rust removal, try one of those small "one hand angle grinders". Wire brushes are available for these. They spin at around 11000 rpm's instead of a drill's 3400 rpms. Sanding discs are also available for these.

For a drill, there is a type of composite black plasicky looking wheel thingy, (made by scotch an others). A bit expensive, but they are excellent and efficient for rust removal uses. Seems like they bite through the rust, instead of wire brushes that sometimes gives the impression that they are sort of being "lubricated" by the rust , or just "spreading the rust around". (Not the correct tecnical terms, but once you have tried the various methods, you may understand what i mean). Best is to first use the "scotch" wheel, or coarse sanding disc, followed by the wire brush.

Fair comment.
The thing I find is that as most panels are shaped like a women, more curves then straight parts,the sanding disk as well as the scotch disk tend to leave flats, and removes badly needed metal (to keep the car in one piece)
I do not know if you have ever worked with "rust converter". Well for those that have not, let me explain,
The hole idea of rust converter is to retain as much metel as possible, not like the old days when you were told to "remove all rust or it will come back". So all you want to do is get to the 1st layer of metal with rust pit marks, this can be done with a good wire brush. You than paint the rust converter onto the area, ensuring full wetnes, sit back and see it change from pink to black.
When black you know you have stoped the rust and converted it chemicaly to an non-oxide product. Now you have to coat it within a day to stop the oxgyen from getting to it again. Please note it must be a final coat and not just a primer, as a primer is not air tight.
Should you use a under floor rubber compound, you then have a strong fix. And here endith the lession

With regard to the grinder, I have one with brush, but this is not for the faint hearted, boy what a ride and not late at night

When you thick, then it is easy to forget that all the old things were shipped to SA in the old days, even if the Vin # said that it was made in 1967, the car only went through the factory in 1968. but it is a 1968, which means more parts, easy to get.

Have done most of metal work in inside the fasty and have sealed it to the big bad oxygen.

Motor sounds broke,
Chrome is going to JHB via african platers (the best)
Seats are off to my own little "sweat shop" with the rest of the carpets
