Will do...for the mean time I have used connectors, till I got all the wiring sorted out right and in not chance of having the buggy catch a light, will then finish off all the connetions with solder!

Heat shrink is always a good investment as well, way better than tape

thanks for the tips guys! I reckon solder wrapped in heat shrink is the winner! To be honest I'm really battling with the wiring at this stage Wired up the rear and front lights as well as the motor which was the easy part....now sitting with wiring at the dash/ignition/fuse box/ and all the relays and I'm really stuck. Going to slowly chug away at it but I can see it landing up at the auto electrician soon

On the Coil....
The "negative terminal" will have the following connected to it:
Carbrurettor (Two connections one being the choke not sure of the other)
Distributor (point & condenser)

"Poitive terminal" Connects straight to the ignition?

Not sure what else would connect to the coil?

NO! You are going to have a serious short. The condensor wire goes to the 'negative' (1) terminal on the coil, if you have a rev counter the pickup signal is also on that side. On the positive terminal of your coil (15), you connect the positive feed, the electric choke, and the other wire that is probably for the electric cut-off valve of the carb.

Trying to remember how the loom is wired

I'm stuck again...got home early to get going with the electrics again, with the use of Buggyfan's diagram (many thanks ) None the less I have got stuck on getting the indicators to work

This is what I'm sitting with:

I have two wires coming from the steering (left and right). I imagine they connect to the indicator arm inside. I also have a wire from the steering which was previous connected to the indicator light on the dash.............. then I have the indicator relay as shown in the picture below.

My guess
* Live wire connects to one of the pins on the relay box
* From one of the pins on the relay switch to the indicator light on the dash
* From another of the pins on the relay is will connect to the wire on the steering
* The left and Right wires from the steering then connects directly to the left and right indicator wires front and back???

I thought that the relay would be connected up after the indicator lever and not before

Please guys....do any of you know how this all gets wired up?

hi soul,post the numbers found next to the terminals on the relay.
if you look at your previous wiring diagram on pg6 the blinker has 3 wires,1 an earth ,2 power coming from the fuse box going into the blinker/relay,3 power going out of the blinker/relay going to the steering column switch .on wire 3 a connection goes to the speedo indicator light.

hope this makes sense.

what type of fuseblock and nr of fuses are you using and did you retain the steering column setup that was on the buggy .

have you found an ignition switch with key yet?

Going to have to try mine and yours to see which works..as your diagram does not show a earth...so not sure now which is the correct one

The fuse block I am using is a one which a little while ago the auto electrician installed as the buggy orginaly do not even have a fuse box

It has 6 fuses .... and yes I retained the steering column setup ot he buggy

Not found a ignition switch yet...infact I need to follow up on it as apprently Volkspares did say they will be getting some in

OK eeets werking!!! Indicators, brake lights and hooter are now operational!!!!

As promised here are some pics of the new motor...still loads to do but slowly getting there!

Brothes Soul, l would honestly suggest you either change your taillights i.e fit beetle ones, or rework them so they are directed to traffic coming from behind. The way they looking, seems like you might be mistaken for a landing strip :-}

Ok wiring is all being done and somewhat sorted...just a few more little things to sort out but turned the key a few days ago and wwwwaaalaaaaaa no wires burnt out and no fires.... she even started up

Now the job has come to tidy up all the wiring, as I did a rough job while I was figuring out how everything connects up...

I'm soldering all the connections and then covering it with heat shrink...followed by wrapping all the wiring in conduit and chasing it under the fibre glass body...only thing is I'm having a problem figuring out how to fasten the loom down...

As you can imagine the underside of the fibre glass body is rough and I'm hoping to avoid drilling holes into the body to it down.... does anyone have a good ideas on the best way to neatly tie the wiring down
