Haha an unc' of mine hooked up alignment on my bug with chalkline and a spirit level, wasn't there when he did it, but it steers true and straight with even tyre wear..... Buuut now I've got new rims so think I need to get it done.

UPDATE

I've been quite busy over the past few days and the weekend with the buggy - slowly but surely everything is coming together. Completed the brackets for the seats, and fitted the sliders - everything seems to work well, and the seats are now adjustable for drivers or passengers with long or short legs. Still need to have covers for the buggy seats made, though..

I've also started with the wiring again, spending long hours at night studying wiring diagrams downloaded from TheSamba - it took me quite a while to 'click' some basic principles again, since I forgot a lot I learned last year. As I said a long time ago I am sticking 100% to the correct orignal VW wire gauges and colours, and have collected quite a lot of wires from various Beetles over the past few years for transplanting into HW2. I am proud to say that not a single milimiter of insulation tape will be used for HW2's wiring, and I am also not using any of those hardware store-special lugs with the coloured plastic tags. I am painstakingly crimping brass lugs to the wires, and use the original VW plastic connectors to put it all together. The wiring from the back to the fuse box, as well as the ignition is now 100% complete, most of wires into and outh of the 12-fuse fuse box is also sorted. Next step will be to figure the Golf indicator and wiper stalks on the steering out, and connecting the following to it:

- Dim/bright switch for headlights
- Indicators left/right + connections for hazard switch
- Wipers with slow/fast setting and auto-park (intermittend setting 'could' also be an option if I could find the correct relay)
- Hooter to work from button on steering wheel

Unfortunately I do not have the correct plugs for the stalks on the steering wheel, but I will need to connect the miniature lugs one by one, after I have tested them for continuity - time-consuming work, yet a lot of fun and very satisfying when done

I want to close this post by saying that automotive electrics shouldn't be a challenge for anyone. I am an absolute amateur, but a lot of it is just plain logic, based on that what we learned in High School Physics classs!

PS: If you don't hear from me again soon, I might have accidently switched my wires around!

Good to see some progress on the buggy.

By the way, what happened to the Sp2, is it still stored somewhere?

Not quite, as I said I am NOT using those coloured electric lugs. I have modified the Golf dim/bright stalk to be used with the Beetle headlight relay. And I haven't looked at a Golf wiring diagram. At al :?

Thanks Jacques, but it seems like I got it sorted for now.

Today exactly 4 years since the HW1 accident - time does fly, indeed...
