WTF!!!

The day before yesterday, I parked Lady against an incline. Yes, it's rather steep, but I did not expect to find what I found today.

Anyway, last night I started her and instantly noted that there was a huge problems. She didn't want to idle and the oil pressure did not want to build up.
So I do what any ACVW owner would do... check the oil. Strangely the dipstick read WAY ABOVE FULL. And I mean WAY ABOVE.

After this I decided to park her in the garage over night and check again in the morning.

This morning I checked again, and the dipstick still read way above full. So I decided to tap the oil out and see how much I get out.

Slowly I unscrewed the sump cover and the moment the oil started flowing I knew exactly what happened. The sudden smell of fuel was unmistakable.

It would seem that sitting at the incline she was, the fuel slowly leaked past the fuel pump into the sump.

I completely drained her and allowed time for the fuel to evaporate. I made use of this time by doing the valve adjustment and having quite a bit of coffee.

Now, with fresh oil and valves adjusted, she idles and runs... but still overheats. :(

Wouldn't getting fuel into the sump, turning her over trying to start, etc absolutely kill the engine? How would the fuel get into the sump anyway? I can't think how that would happen???? The oil and fuel systems are totally separate or am I wrong? The fuel wouldn't pump unless the engine was running....

Sorry to hear Dirk! No one deserves that!!!

Dutch, Tese things happen when you park on a 45 degree incline. If you park nose down then all the petrol runs back into the tank and takes ages to fire

I only parked her there so I could take a picture to send to Nicky. She's in Rustenburg at the moment and I wanted to prove that I did clear the eyesore from the front.

To bad I didn't have the presence of mind to move her again.

Yup. I'd rather have it that way than having to clean up on Friday and worry about picking her up.

So how about it guys. Wednesday afternoon till late. I'll supply the fire and a few side snacks. Bring what you want to have :D

You would prob find the fuel flowed from the tank thru the pump and into the carb. Maybe the incline made the float move slightly or the carb doesnt seal properly... and then the fuel ran into the inlet manifold, into the cylinders with open valves and past the rings into the sump

Carb has got a overflow??? that runs down the venturi. The thick pipe running at a angle just below the chock.

Dont know what angle it would have to stand at for this to happen but it would need to be very steep.

You've seen the incline of my driveway Tom. That's the incline Lady was standing on.
