Car primered at panelbeater. Hopefully, will be painted in the next two weeks. Anyone have any idea on what electric mirrors will fit on the KG door mount?

That looks good so far. What extra bodywork was needed? And how complete is it?(in other words, how long before you have it running on the road?)

Been to the Panelbeater yesterday- should be completed in about three weeks. There was no rust but the previous guys had taken of the paint with an anglegrinder!!! so there was a lot of tapping to try and get the bunps out. And or course a layer of bondo and primer to try and get a smooth finish.

next phase will be the barkes and suspension and then the interior. By the end of Spetember it should be on the road.

Just been to the Panelbeater the car has it' first coat on. Will post pics soon.

I've been told that it is not a good idea to convert the rear brakes to disks. Is this true? Has anyone done this conversion?

Will appreciate the help as I need to order parts.

my bug has discs at the back. 100% happy with them. Not sure what the story is with a KG tho

Thanks for the advice. Bug and KG brakes are the same I thin.

I run discs all round on my bug and my KG and I have no problems. I run discs front and drums rear on the bus, no problem, but I don't see why you would want discs on the back of your KG unless you, a) like the look, b) hate adjusting drums, c) have the dough to spend. Putting discs on the back doesn't really do anything that improves braking. You do need a dual circuit MC though, Golf. It has recently been said Golf 2 is the better one.

As a matter of fact, the only advantage I have found using discs over drums is that discs tend not to fade going down mountain passes as quickly. And of course you don't have to adjust them which remains a kak job. But for immediate stopping power, nah! No better.

I think a lot of folks reckon (I know I did) "I'll put discs on and my car will stop like a modern car", but that actually due to the brake booster, not the disc conversion. I still have to stamp just as hard as I did before my conversion...

Decided to leave the back as drums and fit converters to get me to the 5X130 PCD I require for the wheels.

The aim now is to get COR done and get her home.

Unless you're putting on a rim where the dish is towards the outside of the rim, i.e. you needs an adapter to correct the wheel track, you should be able to machine the new stud pattern into the drum, no?

Probably right. Got the adapters from Calook as it was the easier option.
