It's a W-decklid found on all the early Beetles.

I know that it is possible on another 60's easrly model if you also change the rear apron as the T bar handle needs to match the apron with the slot in it...

Im not too sure if it will fit your 70's model, but the same info above applies....

Where are you going to fins a W decklid like Chris mentions? :?

Its in puttfontein ( close to pomona )

On 1968 and later, the rear (and front), bumper is mounted higher. The bumper will be in the way when opening or closing a 66 or earlier engine-lid.
Unless you mount the bumper lower. As somebody mentioned earlier, you have to replace the rear apron as well for the lock to work.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).
