Wise words from Barry

"The advice I give everybody (and am finally starting to listen to myself!!) is to get yourself into a DRIVING project - and then KEEP it on the road, doing nothing bigger at a time than can be tackled in one weekend.
That helps the budget, keeps your motivation going, allows your to mingle and pick up tips and ideas from fellow enthusiasts etc.
Not to mention that is how it was done "back in the day" - a car was never in primer longer than it took to scrape the money together and do the work, but in the meantime it was (for the most part) the guys only vehicle. That also helps you to make sure it is reliable, and to learn the basics you'll need when you breakdown on those long road trips.....wouldn't be a roadtrip without breakdowns!"

This is the lesson that I learnt the hard way :(

Wise words indeed!

Very many non-running projects are abandoned because there's no payback. Being able to drive your project reminds you why you are doing it in the first place.

I am now doing the same with the SC that I have now.

I will never buy a project again. But that said,my first project was a great learning curve and the knowledge I gained from that was invaluable.

Thanx Barry, at my tender young age, I have to humbly say, these are one of the wisesd words I have heard. I have seen guys develop 'scrap yards' cos they buy 'projects', tinker then abandon the stuff as they loose heart and move onto something else. Before one knows it, there are 3 bodies laying in the yard, the missus making noise, and rats having a good lesson as to how to be good auto elecs.

You deserve the finest bottle from Die Vrystaad for those words. The cherry festival is next month, might organise you a Ficksburg special :hangloose:

:drunks:

wise advice, just dont let the repairs take too long.advantage of taking the vehicle off the road is that when it does go back on the road it is normally very fixed where a roling restoration has the tendancy to take twice as long to get right as you are always going back to the begining to repair things you did when you first got the car.
Never make the promise of fixing it when it breaks or stops running. It hardly ever happens that these engines and cars stop and break for daily runners that are mechanically  well kept
