78 Bay DC

Post by vfront »

Been a little slow in getting a blog going about my new 78 Bay DC. The project is all ready underway. When I picked the DC up from somewhere near Ventersdorp it was in a poor state, the dc hadn't had a bath in years and had a serious layer of dust on the dashboard. Clever me decided it would be fun to drive it home some 100 plus km's without even seeing it first and the dc cut out near Carltonville. Had to get the wife to bring the truck to tow me home.

First few weeks for the dc in its new home was spent being bathed over and over again. Have managed to even get the roof lining white again.

On 28 December received the licence and registration which had been transfered into my name.

Some idiot decided to try and respray the DC but only where the paint was lifting. There is also some serious over spray on the windows, window rubbers, lights and door rubbers, so currently trying to clean all the overspray off. Anyone got a solution to getting paint off the window rubbers. Have cleaned up the chrome work.

Still to happen is get the engine running, sort out the interior, new tyres and roadworthy. Will update as this happens and post pics soon.

Sodablasting will remove over spray from the rubbers and glass.

I used brakefluid on glass to remove overspray, you have to be very careful with it for obvious reasons...

Saw your post on the 28th, you started at the right place, getting it in your name first. Well done!

Now keep pushing to get her running, a running project is so much better to work on than a standing one...

Of course, (surprised Blitz didn't ask), where are our pics

Vfront - you forgot to mention the bay needs a new front seat before anything else!

Dont think it will take much to get it running and a RWC.

Quick update on whats happening. Had a few spare momnets on Sunday morning, so I took the seat belts out and gave them a good clean and made sure they are in working order which they are so some time this week they can be bolted back in. A good dose of terps and some elbow grease was used to remove some more of the overspray from the windows.

Recieved a small donation of cash on Friday (thanks dad) so hopefully will be making a trip to the mechanic this week to get the DC running and will definately taking Springer up on the offer of the front seat he has sorced.

Things are moving along, have just returned from dropping the DC off at Joe the mechanic. Hopefully he'll have her running by the weekend.

Visited Joe yesterday afternoon and got to hear my bus running. Not too much wrong with the engine. :) The carbs need to be refurbed, needs a new dizzy and a bloody good service.

Should be running by next week, then I can organise some rubber for the wheels and get the rwc and start driving.
