Baja project

Post by Riceburner »

I am going to build a Baja bug, gota couple of Q's
1. Where can I source a Bug Eye Kit locally?
2. Where can I get rear reduction bus suspension as well as front suspension, I need at least 100mm more ground clearance than stock.
3. Who sells 15" steel wheels for beetles these days?
4. What about rear tube engine protection and front tube bumpers?
Looking to build something like this.

Good choice! :hangloose:
Riceburner wrote:1. Where can I source a Bug Eye Kit locally?
I got an old Bugeye kit, but it needs some work. You are welcome to use it to make a mould, but I heard a rumour that Volkspares Jet Park still has the original SA Bug Eye moulds somewhere in their premisises. Keep in mind that the Bug Eye kit was apparently considered illigal years ago, because the headlights are 'too close to each other'

Slay a Fleetline - there are plenty around, and no-one will miss them
Riceburner wrote:3. Who sells 15" steel wheels for beetles these days?
You won't get them new, but there are many second hand items available, and it is not difficult to refurbish them.
Riceburner wrote:4. What about rear tube engine protection and front tube bumpers?
Volskpares got them new, but once again good secondhand ones are not difficult to find.

BESTALUCK!! :drunks:

Thanks Pine, I will go for the normal Baja kit then. Will a bus suspension bolt directly on?

As far as I know this is still available.

• Liscensed till next year
• Their gearbox failed, bought another and this didn't work so vehicle is standing.
• Engine apparently runs.
• This vehicle is also complete with original interior
• Chassis not as good as black one but repairable

Think a later bug (70+) with more square windows works well - Jasomotor got this one up for sale if he cant sort engine

Right I am looking at a clean 1300 Baja bug. I plan on installing a fresh 1600 motor. Is this a straight swop or anything else I need like a cdiffirent clutch?

Can be a straight swap but you have to watch the gear ratios and what gearbox is in the car....otherwise a 1200 gearbox mated to a 1600 engine will give you get pull but no top end....ask HR
