I made a deal with the new owner that I would do the maintenance on the car. This would allow me to keep an eye on the car and to keep uneducated idiots away from the mechanics of the car.
In the year that the car was out of my ownership, I replaced the engine for the new owner with a recon unit from Vee Motors and some time later I replaced the steering box with a brand new unit from Goldwagen. All of this paid for by the new owner.
In January he contacted me and told me that the car was up for sale for what he originally had paid for it.
In February, he offered me the car at what I considered a bargain and I jumped on it immediately.
This morning, he dropped the car off.
It needs some TLC in the cosmetics department.
They damaged the bumpers due to some careless atachment of a tow rope and the rear seat got burned when the batery cover shifted and the seat frame shorted on the battery and the reclining mechanism of the passenger bucket seat is broken
Now I have a Beetle again with a new engine (5000 km on the recon unit and an effective warranty), discs up front, decent sound, central locking etc. All that for a third of what the car has cost the guy over the past year original purchase included.
It won't be long before Petrus is back to his former glory

My only regret is that I got the car too late today to join one of the convoys to make it to Fig's do
