From home, through the East Rand and Tembisa to the office in Midrand, down the traffic jam on the N1 to the N3 to the N17 to a client in Brakpan. Back on the N17 to a client in Springs. From Springs through Boksburg on the N12, home. 160km - all in a days' work (today)

Last year we decided (me and the girlie) to pack up the bus with some kit and head to the coast - back road style !

Once we hit the R59 out of JHB we where already on holiday. The route took us through many small towns throught the Free State, To Drakensburg via Sterkfontein Dam, through the a little of the Midlands Meander to include Howick and the Midmar Dam finally ending up in windy Ramsgatem, on the South Coast. The same route was taken on the way back but with stopping over at different spots. At 50mph the bus didnt miss a beat (only problem was a faulty regulator - had a spares so wasnt hassled) It was a 1800km+- Round trip that got us back to JHB more relaxed and rested than any other mode of transport could possibly have :)

Just before I came to UK me and some friends did a 900km 6day roadtrip, with my split-panel, the only thing ever done to the panel mechanically since buying it was nothing!!
Just petrol going in nothing else,,,will renew everything once back,
the map is just a guide, we did a lot of travel back and forth between dorpies, but thats the basic route, only problem we had was driving that long gravel road to Lambertsbaai, the roofrack clips started shooting off, but was found.

Yes youre thinking thats not 900km.We stayed over at friends and family and if we drove to the beach or to the "watergatte" we used the bus

quick stop for breakfast

look closely, there is a person on that roofrack!
Image

We got a lot of attention in camps, old toppies, always telling about their bugs and how they wished they could do a trip like we did when they were younger
Image

The Mascot, he sat on the roof all the way, picked it up in Langebaan

Flossie first longer trip with me this weekend. We headed out of Roodepoort to Krugersdorp on Robert Broom Drive. From there we headed on to Magalies where we stopped for a burger as the seat cover and little one was in need of food. :D . After that we continued to Rustenburg where we went to go and visist Flossie cousin from another mother.

We spend the night there and on Sunday we went home but via the Bekker school road for a change of scenery. And she did not miss a single beat. I just love driving her. Ok yes next time I will take photo's

I am taking Petrus to Greytown this weekend.

Leaving Friday morning 05:00 from Centurion.

The route will be N14 to Krugersdorp
R28 through Randfontein and Westonaria
Past Sasolburg to R57 to Heilbron, Petrus Steyn and Reitz
R26 to Bethlehem
R711 to Clarens
R712 through Golden Gate to Harrismith
R74 through Oliviershoek Pass to Bergville and Estcourt
R103 to Mooi River
R622 to Greytown

It's obout 100 km longer than the N3, but I believe that I will see more than just a convoy of trucks on the N3

Depending on departure time on Sunday, I might return along the R33 to Dundee
N11 to Newcastle and Volksrust
R23 through Standerton, Greylingstad, Balfour to Heidelberg
N3 /N1 back to Centurion
