'77 beetle

Post by ...kRiL... »

Hi, Just bought a '77 beetle, replaced the 1600 teinport motor with a 1300 twinport, coz the 1600 was ceased.....problem that i have is that in reverse it smokes a shit load! but going forward it s all gud, could it be that the rear brakes are binding cz the smokes just coming from the rear.....

If so what can be done??

does the car want to stop when you go backwards? If yes, then its the brakes, if no, then its not.

I think the car smokes all the time but when you go forwards, the smoke is behind you so you dont notice it and you also go faster, so it looks thinner

check the engine for oil leaks and fix them

I think you'd notice it if the rear brakes were binding, it would run like a fat woman in jelly.

As Pine said, fix the leaks. Also make sure it's running right (timing, plugs, etc etc)
