Disc brake upgrade...
Hi All,
I'm planning on upgrading my brakes to disc brakes. Is this normally done only to the front pair? Can anyone recommend a set of front Disc brakes I could use. Would disc brakes work fine with my 15" Rostyles or do i need to get an adaptor? If so where can i and how much...
Peace

Hi OD1 , yes it is possible to put disks on front and rear . Normally the PCD changes to 4/100 or what ever you want but i have read about guys here on the forum that have put adapters on back to beetle PCD .There are members here that sells the kit as well. Hope fully they will respond to your thread here.If know one responds i will lead you in the right direction.

Re: Disc brake upgrade...
rui use to sell a kit maybe pm him,saw a kit from volkspares for R2500 for the front at ferdi's,dont know if dave rowley has kits..personally i think front disks should be good enough for a stock bug with the rear drums just adjusted properly because a rear kit is over 3k so you have to ask yourself is it worth it on a stock bug?and yes you have to fit either 4x100 mags then or find adapter for the 5 stud to 4x100 for the disks....

Re: Disc brake upgrade...
You must get a hub that fits where the drum use to sit , with the bearings inside , that hub you get in different PCD's .According to the PCD of the hub you then fit disks eg , 4/100 , then you fit golf disks like mine . The kit consist off two hubs and two callipre brackets . I think if you want to use standard beetle rims you need to make an adapter . Golf callipre's and disks is the most common ones they use to use , all the parts and rims is freely available.Dave Rowley on the forum can help you with this as well. He sells the kits.OD_1 wrote:So are you saying that I need to get an adaptor if I want to put disc brakes on? Whats PCD?

Re: Disc brake upgrade...
This is the conversion that I have done on Petrus.

It is essentially the same kit as sold by Volkspares.
It uses Golf 1 discs and calipers with a reverse mount adapter to mount the standard Rostyle wheels.
The adapter moves the front wheels about 1 cm outwards.
It is advisable to use wheel studs mounted in the adapter in stead of the wheel bolts.

Re: Disc brake upgrade...

And is it avisable to do so?
