VW Beetle - Project Rescue 911

Post by Velociti Mk1 »

Hi Guys

I have a beetle which has been in the family for over 30 years. :D

The cars was used on a daily basis for years and years.

The car however is in Jhb and used alot by my brother, im based in Port Elizabeth. The car also needs lots of attention, the body needs to be repaired and the interioir also needs alot of work.

So i decided to make this car my project, but Im going to need alot of expert advise, so im hoping this site will help.

My biggest problem has always been parts/ mechanics etc. I want to get in touch with people/enthusiasts who know about Beetle's and can advise where to go for

service/parts/mechanices etc etc. Great if anyone can assist. Is there any1 who specialises in Beetles in jhb?

These images were posted some time back on the vwclub site(referred by vwclub to visit this site), so here im only going to focus on the Beetle.

2 Weels ago, disaster struck. The engine caught fire while my brother was driving, and now I need to replace the motor. So anyonw know where I should look?

Anyways heres the pics of the beete as well as some design concepts. Ive also include two other members of the VW family.

The car as is.

Wow! Some nice rides you have there :hangloose:

I would go with the Black beetle lowered on BBS RS wheels - it looks cooooool 8)
If it's too low, you're too old

Cool ideas you have there, black on Bbs does look good indeed. Your first design concept will also be a head turner.

Before you replace the motor, replace all the cables and air filter first, fix the wires (or have them fixed), you may just be pleasantly surprised.... Were you able to figure out what caused the fire? Hope there was not a fuel filter in the engine bay?!

Good luck with the project. :hangloose:

Cool concepts there boet! What programme did you use to 'design' those rides? I am wanting to play a bit with a programme as I am wanting to repaint my cab. :drunks:

The slot rims you are looking for are euro spec (as far as I know) and only fit onto the smaller 4 lug pattern (disc brake upfront).
Your bug is 5Wide pattern so unless you want to do a whole refit then I dont think its possible.

The original paint scheme looks cool - just lower her a little ! Loving the pop outs

The slotted trims you refer to are called trim rings. Contact Callooker on the forum or Volkspares. They can help. Your idea's are good.

Thanks guys.

Well I used Photoshop to create the concepts. It makes life easier to visualise the concepts digitally first.

Anyways, anyone know who I can contact regarding a new engine for the car and wiring etc? I just want to get costs.

Where in Jhb can I find a good panel beater and someone who could do a good spray job.

Did this sketch some time back :D

Ok cool.

Well the car is based in Jhb, and im in Port Elizabeth, but fly down alot. So will be great to find a beetle specialist in Jhb.

During December I would probably start by trying to replace the motor, maybe something with decent power, and also would need to get new wiring.

You right, damage was not as bad as I thought.

The car was towed away, and wiring etc was sorted, so the cars back on the road, yeah.

Probably be back in Jhb during december, so can try work on the car then. Some really cool beetle's on this site.

Cars on the road again, but still needs lots of work.

Anyone know of places in Jhb who work with beetle restoration, panel beating etc.

Thanks.
