KARMA BUG

Post by DriftZ »

New project has comenced... on a shoestring budget..

Basically i now have all the running gear from the Orange 58' Karmann Ghia

Audi Vented Disc Brakes
Front suspension Braces
Bilstien Shocks
Urethane bushes
thicker front sway bar
type 3 Bigger rear drums
Rebuilt gearbox
Bugpack Gearbox braces
Adjustable hieght front suspension
... and whatever other bits i cant remember right now.

There are extra parts i need to sacrifice to aid the rest of buggy's build budget...

1.9 wasser boxer Turbo motor.. cost over 20k to have it built up :( .. will take R6000 ( neg / swop )
Porsche Cookie Cutter Original Alloy Mags + adapters :( will accept R5000 ( not neg )

We did alot of cleaning and prep work on the weekend, painted the underside of the Lolette body black ( I have the best Fiance' in the world, she nearly broke her back helping me to get it all done ), some minor work running cables.. the real work will start next week.. after pay day.

things needed

hard brake lines
accel cable
speedo guage
Aircooled Motor :(
Bucket seats & rails
Steering wheel and indicator + housing
Windscreen and frame
Headlights
Tailights
Indicators
Mirrors
fiddly bits.. etc etc

gonna be sweet once its done, considering not using a roll cage and going minimalistic..

its a bloody mess right now. after grinding much fiberglass / dust everywhere .. but things are slowly happning... basically stripped everything and have been re-fitting replacing... so far the worst has been the new Lollette body/ kit its a bit of a headache.. nothing seems to fit properly or even fit at all, design fail IMO. but we soldering on...

Apologeez for the bad quality ( mud on cell camera = fail ) but i think you can get the idea of the new soft top. I just placed it loosely on the bug so you could see it. Rolls up and hides behint the seats. No sweat or fuss.. i like it.

Looks good, looks like you are having fun with it as well 8)

Why did you not carry on with the orange one, it also looked like it had great potential ?

Looks great! Like the "clean" look :TIC: Can you give more info re the roll bar, please? I'm planning on fitting something similar to my buggy.

Thanks guys... @ Pine - ja decided not to sell... best decision EVER! simply love this bug... it just keeps going n going.. i hammer it every chance i get and it laps it up. Too much awesome... as im sure you know

@jolas - Orange one did have lots of potential .. but was going to be only suited to street use, and then i Lost momentum around about the same time the silver one got offerred back to me... silver one is more suited to offroad imo - rough n ready - so im happier with it.

@Blitzkrieg - Yhe they are 200sx ( s13 ) seats :) nicely spotted! super cumfy = happy fianc'e

@Loopy - Roll cage was a standard Beamish single roll cage... i just took it down to my exzorst shop friend.. he added the rest of the piping as per my design.. we bolted it all up tightly through FG body and pan where ever we could... its FAR stiffer than before, and i feel alot safer in it.
