71 Bay single cab

Post by Stütz »

So after buying a double cab not too long ago, and while trollling the interwebs I bumped into this single cab. The owner was thinking of exporting her out of South Africa so I bought it on the spot even though I haven't actually seen it with own eyes.

The owner says it's a '72 but it looks like a '71 to me. I'll check the plate when I go fetch it. I will be doing an 1800km trip from Durban to Cape Town in the car so that should test her mettle.

She needs a little work here and there and there were some cheapskate repairs made by the previous owner but I will undo those and replace with all original parts and panels again. I think I will attack this one's resto first and then tackle the DC after.

The interior is great and she just needs a nice clean-up and to lose the sheepskin covers.

Some of the photo's are lousy but I never took them so they will have to do for now until I can go and fetch it.

Louis I just want to keep it relatively stock. Maybe rims and dual carbs later.

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Today I Fitted the Fuchs replicas I bought from Bernard (beetlefanatic) a year and three months ago. Went with 195/15's and had alignment and balancing done. Nice strong working tyres and some funky rims.
(Pics to follow shortly)
