TDi Conversion??? - Rotary Diesel maybe???

Maybe one of you guys out there can give me some advice.
I'm thinking of getting a bus, would like to look into doing a TDi conversion on it using a 1.9TDi or 2.0TDi Golf/Jetta motor. I've seen many conversions like that done in the U.K, nobody tells what engine management system they use. My question is - do you get an aftermarket engine management system for TDi motors? Everything else is not too difficult to get or manufacture here.

Speak to Stuart Syncromad about this. He runs a mechanical pump on the 1.9 motor...

Thanx Blitz, I'll speak to him about that..

Hi Riaan

why a TDi? first, do a 2.0i Golf, rev better and drive nicer, my TDi is in a syncro, cruises nicely at 90-100, 2.0 i will cruise in the same set up, a syncro at 130/140 easily and top out at 170. take it you want to fit it to a bay. Golf 2.0 will be more fuel efficient and drive much nicer,

Well I was thinking of the TDi because it's not something you see everyday in S.A. I'm thinking it's not going to be as straight forward or easy as a w/c petrol conversion, the idea is to do it in a bay yes, had some experience with transplanting motors in them, I helped with a 2.0l skyline motor in my dad's double cab bay and a 1.8l golf motor in my uncle's bay..
? 2.0 Golf more fuel efficient than a TDi ?
I haven't been able to find any aftermarket management systems for diesel motors except the programmable one that Bosch does, but that's in the region of R80000-00 and that's just plain crazy!

Power output seems a little low?

It does seem a little low but its DAMN interesting!

Interesting that the weight is only 25kg for the smaller version and 35kg for the larger one.
It still uses sparkplugs, so it's not really a compression-ignition engine. Uses two-stroke oil. (Maybe it helps lubricating the rotor seals).
Fuel consumption of 300g/kwh is still thirsty and in the petrol engine class. (Newer generation TDI's and even 40 year old Deutz engines uses only about 200g/kwh) diesel.

Very interesting concept.

I`m in the proses of building a straight axle conversion for split bus and then fitting a Rotary Turbo in to the splitty that will olso be a first or not

First one I know of... :)
(Just off the topic quick - Bugger, what management system do you use for the rotary motors?)

Let us know how that works, I've heard from a lot of people that Microtech is the best for running rotary's, I see Gotech say they can run rotary's too now, never seen or heard of somebody that used a Gotech on a rotary, I'm a bit sceptical about the Gotech..
