Gearbox Quizz

Post by Classic Beetle Fan »

My car has a 1300 gearbox in, and I swapped my 1300 for a 1600...
but when I cruize to work i only get 100 - 110km/h and the engine's revs are very high.

I just want to know, if I put the 1600 gearbox in, what top speed will I get, and will I be able to cruize at 120km/h without worrying about the engine revving high?
:?: :?: :)

HI

What was the letter codes on the old transmission and what is the current letter codes on the transmission

If I got this info then I can give you a answer if you did go from 1300 to 1600

Then I need the Diameter of your current Tyres and I can work out what speed you were doing on say 3500RPM with old transmission and new one

I have a over sized 1600 engine 86.46mm pistons, have a 31 PICT carb on it, with the 1300 gearbox.
I have 195/55/15 tires on the car.

I know its a 1300 gearbox cause it has short ratios.. and I had a 1600 gearbox in once, only for a day , and the gears were longer but I didnt check the top speed on it.

I just want to know if its worth the time and energy swapping the gearbox, because I have a 1600 gearbox in my garage.
