1972 411 LE
Hi GUys,
Today I come with a dilemma of note.
This Car has been put on sale for R 8000
Catch is that it is R7000 behind on licencing.
What way is there to get around this? On top of everything the car is in the Klein Karroo. Is this worth it at all?

Re: 1972 411 LE
Only My Opinion,
But it would seam that there is not a great following for the 411/412 vw's
Most guys buy them for their engines, which has a approx. value of R1500, unknown condition.
Junk mail normally have a few, which are going, and with papers, for less then R8000, and if you contact Arno in Villiers Dorp, he has 2 at a good price.
Hope this helps.

Re: 1972 411 LE
or offer to buy for R1000
If it is going for 8k, and 7k behind on licencing, do i need to explain further?

Re: 1972 411 LE
Under new rules the buyer is not made to pay back licence. They will transfer it into your name and send the arrears bill to the previous owner, who will not be able to renew any other car licence until they have paid. It does appear, though, that this approach is not yet universal, but I have found that most GP licensing authorities do it this way now.

Re: 1972 411 LE
Cape Town also do it.
I like the 411 and 412s. I know they are rust buckets and are more difficult to fix/maintain due to their monocoque design, but their engines were by far the best AC engines VW produced.
They are very rare, but whether their real value will ever be realised before there are none left, I don't know. They aren't very loved... shame...

Re: 1972 411 LE
Unless you get the original NATIS doc with the car, you most probably won't be able to do the transfer until the arrears are paid up, because (in my own experience in/with Germiston) a NATIS doc for the car must be produced for the xfer to be done, and a new NATIS doc must then be issued - which they won't do while there are licence fees outstanding..
So, unless you really have your heart set on this particular beast, and nothing else will do, look elsewhere.
If, though, you MUST have her, then try to find out from your local licensing authority what their procedure is. And get it in writing, signed, on an official letterhead - a verbal assurance isn't worth the paper it's written on, to paraphrase Samuel Goldwyn.

Re: 1972 411 LE
Some thing new that seams to have been started, is that you cannot transfer the car to your name BUT the original owner has to do the change of ownership, then only can you register it in your name.
And as said, No papers if not paid, regardless who has to pay, so if old owner will not pay, then they force you to pay if you want the transaction to go through, Nice hey !!

I wont be taking it. Something more desirable and in a much better condition for far less money, licenced until may next year showed up on my doorstep tonight. Going to have a daytime inspection of it tomorrow afternoon and hopefully it will be in my carport tomorrow night. Watch This Space::
