RHD dashboard for type 3

Post by 68 notch »

I just wanted to post some pics of a project I am working on to produce a really high quality replica dashboard for the RHD type 3.

Currently I am still working on making a mould from a really good original dash that I picked up in England. The dashes when done will be made from polyurethane resins and foam. They will have the same foam pad thickness as original and also have the speaker grill although the holes do not go through the dash. It's only an impression to look the part. They could be drilled through though.

There is another thread here http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=475227

This pic is the original dash that mould is being taken from, the silicone surface of the mould will capture every detail of the original dash.

Have been following his project.

He is making a high cost replica of the original dash with foam underlay.

Hope he gets it right, as many have tried it that way.

His estimation would be a selling cost of about $600.00

Hope he gets buyers.

Effort should be rewarded..

Here are a few pics of one of the prototype (#3) Aussie RHD dashboards - fitted to my Notch. Best reproduction of a type 3 dash I've ever seen. :D (Sorry Retrovan  )

Hi Adriaan,

No Problem. :hangloose:

As you know, the dash is made more complex, and therefor more costly.

As he still has some imperfections in the casting, it shows how good the original dash has to be to get a good mould.

Please post the full cost of this dash, including postage and customs and vat, as it would be of interest to some of our forum guys.

Please also let us know how it holds out in the sun, over time.
