Always scared of these engines, you find that some guy has heard its easy to do a VW motor, try s it himself, and when he starts it, its a mess.
Then he sells it and try s to convince the buyer its just needs to run in....

If I were looking to build a 2.3L then this would be a basis, even if for just the parts, new the 82mm crank alone will set you back about R4000
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

Dont know if you guys still think if this is a bargain.... Owner decided to sell after someone told him that this engine and driving the sand dunes dont mix. He said that the sand could be seen in the oil when he took the 'siffie' off underneath.... Also it only needs rings to run again...
This "2.3l" motor consists of:
Standard beetle engine casing
82 mm kombi / Oettinger crank
Standard beetle camshaft
94mm piston kit from Master Parts
Standard Beetle heads
Alternator
Standard Beetle distributor
Solex 34PICT carburettor

I don't know engines at all well, but isn't having a motor over 1.9l a recipe for disaster? Like blown this and that?

Heres the way I see it, to have the std motor cut for the 94mm pistons and 82mm crank plus the cost of the parts listed you are looking at no change from R10k. As opposed to the cost of new bearings? At the same time you could put in a 110 cam and do a port & polish on the heads and change the carbs.Later you could upgrade the valve train, more port work and you have a killer motor that upgrade at each engine overhaul...
