Aircooled VW South Africa

This weekend I started fitting my twin webers on my ghia.
I thought it would be a simple bolt on affair. As you can see the carbs push up against the fan shroud
and therefore I need to modify the shroud or get a new one (luckily I've got a spare to modify)
Any other ideas folks?

Had the same problem and made a hybrid fanhousing with an early d housing coupled with a late doghouse.

On the 1776 with twin Weber IDFs that IMPI built for me last year, he uased a 36hp fan shroud, which doesn't snag the carbs, but he first gutted it and welded in all the bits from a doghouse fan shroud.

I thought this was a much more stylish solution than removing the heater outlets and cutting notches into the later fan shroud.

Those intakes look like they are meant for the reproduction EMPI 36hp shroud or the silly angled chrome shroud without the internal oil cooler.

Any chance you can get taller intakes meant for the stock shroud? Or are you guys kinda stuck without many options?

I am limited by the sprung hinges on the engine lid, so can't go any higher

You seem to get several different inlets of varying dimensions. The ones i got originally were too wide and didn't fit in my beetle, would work in your car. then I got a new set from VS that look like yours and those work. BUT i run one of the shrouds without the heater ducts. so as i see it, either you swop to that style fan shroud OR find differnt inlets.

I have 3 different sets of manifolds, all have fitted in the beetle bay and have all cleared the doghouse shroud.
You do need to remove the choke plate and replace it with a piece of flat sheet metal though.

more problems, my hood hinge springs are of different sizes so right air filter won't fit.
Can one get shorter filters?

Are these hinge springs the same as for beetles??

on closer inspection, the shorter one seems to have been modified.
The front hood has the long ones, so I would assume these are correct.
