Well known band's kombi burns out. :(

That's the (formerly green) bus with a Beetle grafted into the roof that used to be seen around Harties.

Check your fuel lines volks!!!

Shame, that's terrible.

It just shows how vital it is that your fuel and electrical system has to be in tip top shape.

In Cape2Cairo's case one fire extinguisher wasnt enough to put out a engine fire on his beachbuggy!!!

Driving out of Otjiwarango, car in the back of me, overtook me, started hooting and got me to stop.
jumped out and sprayed with my extinguisher.
traffic cops came and used 3 cans of their heavy duty extinguishers before it died out.

Me thinks it was an electrical problem, was warned about these engines as they are prone to catching fire.
Will get it to Windhoek as there could be a few VW spares lying around.

Will drive this Buggy back to Cape Town!

When my 63 Dormobile caught fire in Rondebosch about 15 years ago, two 1.5kg fire extinguishers didn't put the fire out. Because I was continuously yelling "FIRE!!!" at the top of my lungs we were passed a couple of hosepipes, which allowed us to get it under control until someone rocked up with a large halon extinguisher to finish it off. The fire engine got there in less than three minutes and they would have been too late ...

Extremely Sad event !

Halon / BCF is amazing. Unfortunately it is banned because of environmental concerns. It is only allowed in the aviation industry. Personally I don't like the dry powder. It makes a huge mess. I agree with Fig on prevention. Check your fuel lines. A solenoid is also a great idea where the fuel exits the tank. In case of a engine fire, the petrol from the tank continues to feed the fire.
